Default Plastic Dye

My friend was askin me about this and i didnt know so i figured one o yall would know.

Does anyone know where I can get plastic dye? I dont need vynle dye, not the spray paint. I have heard of some stuff that you boil and put the thing you are going to dye into the water with the color and it comes out the color.

I need to dye a Lacrosse head, if anyone knows what that it. It gets beat up pretty bad when you play, so regular paint will just chip off. I need it to soak into the plastic .

Thanks guys

Krylon makes a paint specifically made for plastics. You might try that. Your other option is a professional adhesion promoter for plastics, you can find it at auto paint stores.

"It's a little known fact outside of the craft world that Rit® Dye, the same dye used by most people to tie-dye fabric, is also effective on plastic..."
- a quote from http://www.ee0r.com/proj/dyepyramids.html. Sounds like that might be the dye you're talking about.

By the way, I've heard the Krylon Fusion that AntiM mentioned actually does soak into the plastic and dye it. Could be worth a shot (who knows, might fade less in the sun, too).

The Krylon Fusion is not strong enough to withhold a beating...at least the silver stuff I have doesn't. Maybe the base colors do, although it does just seem to be regular vinyl dye almost. The paint scratches almost too easily for me, although when I broke the AOL CD it didn't flake and broke uniformly sticking to the CD very well.

Doesn't seem like a heavy duty paint made for lacrosse action, try out that dye FF linked to though.

I would definintely not use the Krylon Fusion. I painted a mouse with it, and then when i decided that I didn't like the effect, I was actually able to remove all of the paint with a little bit of my mom's nail polish remover. It doesn't soak into the plastic like they say it does, and after a bit of gaming it actually started to come off of the mouse onto my thumb (that's why I decided to remove it in the first place).
