Angry I can't paint.

I've lost all hope in doing a nice, simple paint job.

I decided to paint my mouse. I sand it, but not sure what grit it was. It was fairly fine. Then I spray. I used only one kind of spray, and it's in the basement right now so I don't know exactly what type it is. After applying a few layers thinking each next layer will make it look nicer due to the sanding scratches, I just found out how much of a n00b I am. I read the PR guides, but Insom uses tools I never even heard of.

Now I ask first. How can I go about having a nice paint job on a keyboard or mouse? What paints to use? What order? What sanding grit? Preparation?

If you have sanding scratches you're using too course a grit. Start with around 400 grit. Or use a equivalent 3M pad for plastics. You just want to knock off the shine so paint will adhere, not scratch it.

Vinyl dye usually works well on most plastics. If you want to use a thinner based paint it's best to use a primer that won't destroy the plastic and adhere's well. Thinner base lacquers and such can melt certain plastics. I use Coverite white primer for plastics. You can get it at hobby stores. Then you can paint with virtually any paint.

I think the best thing to use on plastics is a green scuff pad. You can find those almost anywhere. As far as paint goes I use lacquer paint but I recently used some Krylon Fusion on plastic and it worked great. Actually it worked better than great. The color choices were limited but the paint is specifically made for plastic.
