Default How can i fix a run?

i got alittle ahead of the game, and put a layer ontop before the undercoat was done, and i have a nice run on the side of my panel. there are about 7 coats on there. can wait like a week or two, and sand it down, and touch it up? or should i remove it all with a paint remover, and start over?

it was all going good unitl i decided to put alittle "extra" on there. :/

peace,
Rada

A pic of the "run:" would help a lot. Depending on how bad it is, you can probable let it dry completely, wed sand it down flat and then slap another layer ontope of it. I'm not that big of a painter but from what I have read that should work...

Were you using lacquer or enamel paint? If it is lacquer then I would say let it sit out in the sun for a few days and then wet sound down the run and paint it. If it is enamel then you need to wait at least 5 days but 7 is more ideal then wet sand and paint again.

Actually the best way that I have found to rub out a run, is using a razor blade. If you just start sanding to remove the run , you will be sanding the paint around the run and run a chance of rubbing through the clear (finish). If you take a razor blade and wrap some tape around the edges of the blade and 'shave' the run flat before you start sanding it will work alot better.

EDIT; hold the blade vertical to the surface, and shave the run, do not try to 'cut' it off. The tape over the edge not only protects the paint from being damaged by the sharp edge, but also keeps the razor blade from removing the surrounding area.

Hope this helps

That is genius. Great tip thanks. Funny how the simplest things can save you time & frustration and still get the job done.
