| Hey, noob poster here. I got a black case, and a beige cd rom. Any suggestions on painting a cd-rom, with regards to masking and the like. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to mess with paying $20 extra just because the plastic needs to be black. take it easy rezzix | ||

| Yup, first off, I'm guessing the black case is a flat black, right? Well if it is, go to an auto body shop like Pep Boys and pick up some Vinyl Dye/Spray Paint. This is usually a perfect match to a black case, if not it's very close. Much better than beige. All you do is remove the bezel, therefore anything you miss masking you won't damage anything important. Anyways, all you'll really need to mask is the LED hole. And you won't need to mask this off unless it has a little clear plastic piece there to make the LED shine through better. Most cd-roms have this, so all you need to do is take some masking tape and cover up that clear plastic piece in there. I find it easier to make a tiny little square piece out of masking tape and stuff it in there with a pencil or hobby knife. Then just vinly dye that drive and it'll look beautiful. Here's a pic of my vinyl dyed drives on my case: ![]() Looks pretty good eh? Those are also a work in progress actually. The top slot drive I just need to touch up that LED section, you can still see some beige and the bottom cd-rw drive I need to put another coat on the tray cover to match the rest of it, I just put it on to show you. Good luck. Last edited by Hgoale; 06-August-02 at 09:52 PM.. | ||

| Guest | Dear Hgoale, Hmm. How would you keep the drive bay doors from sticking and not functioning after painting? It seems to me that the trays would stick and you wouldn't be able to get your CDROMs in or out. How do you keep from damaging the inner workings of the CDROM drives? Am I missing something here? Noobie Does my picture of Eva Peron show up in the signature below if I am not logged onto Pimprig.com as the picture is coming from my hard drive? P.S. Disregard my private message to you as I picked an Avatar. Thank you! sara24 | |

| What I do when painting a CDROM drive is to take everything apart this way theres no need to mask anything off then spray it a little from all sides so you get everything painted small pieces can be mounted with tape or something to keep them in place so you dont blow them on the floor finished continues in next post to many pictures for one (lost my whole post due to to that error) | ||

| (dudidum have to wait 30 seconds here....) I also painted the tray black if its possible and your capable this will make it look better when the drive is open The CaseMOD where the pictures are from If you let the paint dry before you put it together there should not be a problem with it sticking BTW no one but yourself will see your sig picture if you link it to your C: drive | ||
