Default Coating away matteness

After accumulating enough errors and problems to sink a ship, I've given up and repainted http://www.forumapex.com/project_wor...a_project.html with a solid metal-flake aluminium, close to the original.

Now, the problem is-- metal-flake paints tend to dry matte. My plan involves (as you can see from the first attempt) using decals to implement the design.

Any model builder knows that decals adhere poorly and sparkle terribly when applied on a matte finish.

The case was originally clear-coated, but my experience with spray-on gloss finish has been less than thrilling, frankly.

I had thought of applying a bunch of paste-wax to the panels, and hopefully rubbing enough in between the particles to provide a smooth finish.

Any other thoughts? Should I get a can of whatever they used in woodshop for a clear, smooth finish? Should I just throw this damned mess out, buy another SR-8100, and scratch-board the design I want on black instead?

try multiple layers, then wet sand it w/1200-2000 grit.after that ,3m rubbing compound and elbow grease make for a mirror finish.
