| I have a friend with a small tree service business. I will be working part time with him for coin to replace/ upgrade my rig depending how my RMA goes. He asked me to recomend a Scanner/Fax/Printer, but I know very little about them. Could you guys recomend a brand and or model? His budget is 100-200$ We have Best Buy, Staples, Office Max etc... We will get it locally, so if there is a problem we can return it without doing the RMA thing in the mail. Here is one place I was looking at, do any of these seem like a good deal? >>>Microcenter <<< Thanks in advance ![]() *EDIT* One more thing, I was talking about ink cartridges at work with the guys, they seem to run out fast and are expensive to replace, this may also be a factor in total cost for my friend in the long run,. Is there a place to get a good deal on replacements? (can be online) Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 26-September-03 at 04:00 AM.. | ||

| My g/f has been using a Lexmark X75m Print Trio (about $65) for about a year now, and has been very happy with it. Both in print quality and cartridge life. Myself, I have an older Lexmark Z82 all in one deal. I'm not sure they sell them anymore though, but its served me well. I usually just use the cartridge refill kits myself. Its usually good for 2-3 uses before actually having to buy a new cartridge. Lexmark are the only printers I've had any exp. with (6-7 yrs. now), so my overview on the topic is kind of limited...lol Last edited by jinx©; 26-September-03 at 05:24 AM.. | ||

| ARGHHH, your freakin me out with the winkin at me Jinx Very sweet, Must have just added that In that dicussion on printer cartridges, the guys say the newer style cartridges are designed to discourage refilling, something about a cardboard wick going to the printhead that dries up as ink is used, and won't absorb the new ink right. They also said some even have little resistors that burn out as the level drops, and become TOTALY useless. They make more profit from the refills than on the printers, and the refill industry was begining to eat into the profits. Hmm... a few dollars for ink, or 20-40$ for a cartridge, seems like they didn't like the little guy to get an advantage Thx for the brand recomendation ![]() | ||

| I've heard similar about the newer cartridges Solid. On my Z82, I have 2 sets that I refill/rotate, and it seems to work out well. We havent tried to refill the carts on the X75, as she feels this would be devil work and break something...lol...But I think youre right, and the carts in hers dont look to be refillable. p.s...I added the wink deal in ImageReady today, been trying to learn this animation crap a little. | ||

| The lexmark is a good brand... ive used them at work... i like HP but they are a bit more then you budget allows..... regarding refils check out this kit http://www.stratitec.com/inkrefill/ it costs about 25 bucks and you can refil your cartriges bout 10 times (saving a $hitload of money) and its pretty damn... easy... As Jinx said , just buy two sets of cartriges (and apparently the Z75 is not refillable.) | ||

| I generally tend to frown on Lexmark printers as I've had bad experiences with them at work. I like to stick with HP models, but to be completely honest, I have little experience with the all-in-one jobbies. Most of my experience comes with the laser lines of both companies. Good luck Necro... | ||

| Dell is also selling all-in-ones nowadays. My dad got one as a free upgrade with his laptop. They seem to be decently priced and print pretty well, I haven't really messed around with it enough to be able to tell you more. Ink cartridges for it are $27 and $30, less if you buy a bundle deal, but I think you're stuck buying it through them. | ||

| My short list would be Epson, Canon and HP. I buy cartridges at Fry's for my Epson. Less than half the price of Epson cartridges and works perfectly even at photo quality on special papers. I've had problems with refill kits...and I'm basically lazy. The brand name is InnoJet. | ||
