| I have an nvidia 5200 128mb agp video card and i'm runnin windows xp home. I have a problem with the graphics and cannot figure out what it is. I have screwed with all of the display settings, mobo setting (video cache ect.), oc'd the card, underclocked the card, left the card where it is supposed to be, updated to the latest nvidia drivers, used old nvidia drivers, tried directx 8.1 and 9.0b, and i even wrote a letter to god but I cannot get rid of the prob. If anyone here can give some tips or things to try please do. Thanx in advance. ***Screenshots no longer available*** oh... and also I have tried setting the bf42 settings at the lowest and at the highest. Gameplay is the same either way (not choppy) but the holes refuse to go away. Sometimes there is also walls/ terrain that i can walk through that are not really there. thanx Last edited by Lithium; 20-September-03 at 03:34 AM.. | ||

| no.... other games work fine like mohaa.... nascar, or whatever. other games run great no probs. Just battlefield and I have reinstalled like 10 times oh.... and that is the water you see in the hole. If there is water on the map.... even just a small pond I can see it all the way on the other side of the map. I can also see through some walls and things like that but i'm not into cheating and besides.... it hurts me too cause sometimes someone will be standing right infront of me and I don't see them because the terrain makes a hill or wall that isn't there. I am gonna see if I can make a screenshot of one of the "walls" Last edited by Lithium; 15-September-03 at 01:07 AM.. | ||

| no.... they are in data.cab and data2.cab if they were corrupt wouldn't the game not play at all???? And if they are corrupt that is the cd where they came from... wouldn't the ones on the cd be corrupt also. I have reinstalled like 10 times....... really and I just thought if it was somthin like that it would have fixed it by overwriting the old ones. I have even reinstalled the os. yes.... i am starting to see why so many people flame nvidia but i had a 32 and 64mb card that worked great. I'm not even sure if it is the vid card. I don't know. man I gotta figure this out. I googled the hell out of it but found nothing. Last edited by Lithium; 15-September-03 at 01:28 AM.. | ||

| Hmmmmm.......... I don't think that is the prob. I changed the settings in the bios to make the agp the primary video device thing whatever. And anyway..... how did you know my previous cards were pci...... oh , you live right down the street within a 1/4 mile. Hmmmm. Really I don't think that is it. I think it is a display setting somewhere that I have missed (no way could it be a crappy card, works great in every other game) maybe the setting is even in battlefield itself but I swear I have changed every setting to no avail. From the best graphics, to the worst, to the middle, back to best, and so on and so forth. I know there has to be some badass gaming guru's that know the answer to this one. Come on uber l337 hackers. Someone knows. | ||

| Is it a legal purchased game cd? If it wa dled from kazza it could be a corrupt game. Are you ocing the vid by any chance?I have seen problems likethese when I oced the vid card too much.If the card works fine in every other game I think it is your copy of bf1942. Have you tried to uninstall it and deleate all files asociated with the game and borrow a friends copy of it to test it? Just some thoughts.. | ||

| I did buy the game and it is legal. I have also borrowed Joe the King's bf42 cd's and just used my cd key but still the same prob. on the oc'd vid card. I have left it where it is supposed to be, overclocked it, and underclocked it. Turned off vertical sync and turned it back on. Set all of the display settings at best performance and then set them all to best quality. none of these settings changed anything (that I can notice). | ||

| Well..... the card is about a month old but my unorginized self has no idea where the receipt is. No maps or mods, there was a point in time where it did not do it and I don't know why. It was doin the hole thing..... then it just stopped. Afew days later my pc wouldn't boot because of a missing system config file (nothing to do with the game or card) and I had to format and reinstall the os. Now I can't get it back to where I had it. It did have holes from the begining though. I have tried all of the driver provided by nvidia. I started with the latest detonator drivers and then went backwards through old drivers. I also uninstalled them correctly according to the nvidia web site so there shouldn't have been any conflicts with old drivers. I am now using the latest detonator drivers since it made no difference with the older ones. Did you look at those screen shots??? Pretty weird huh???? well...... I am guessing now that no one can help. Thanx anywayz. ![]() Last edited by Lithium; 15-September-03 at 08:18 PM.. | ||

| Do you have any digital cameras or scanners. Maybe they might be butting heads one way or another with your vid drivers. But my professional advice is to visit your local dumpster. they will dispose of your 5200 free of charge. It is what i did. Saved up cash for like a week or two and got a nice new 5900. but you are probably a youngster so that is out of the question. try uninstalling any cameras or scanners for the cheaper approach. | ||

| i HAD the same problem(or similar) with rallysport challange but anyways these wall just appeard when i was driveing. it was with my ati9000 and i think i had it oced to much and it was over heating, so i put a side intake on it and it stoped doing that. try instaling the game on a diffrent rig if you got one and see if it still does it and then you will be able to determine if its the game or not. also try a diffrent vid card if you have one but other than that im clueless. | ||

| Allright........ thank you all for your replies. I found the answer............. sort of. I flashed the bios with the most recent one available for my mobo (an19c) which I really did not want to do but after trying everything else I had no choice. Then I reinstalled the nvidia drivers (5th or 6th time), played with some settings (50th or 60th time), reinstalled bf42 (100th or 1 billionth time), ran the game...... holes gone. Couldn't tell you exactly wich one fixed it but I would bet it was the bios. Hmmmmm. I just went updating crazy. Proly should have done one thing at a time but out of frustration I did not and so I don't know what solved the prob but it's fixed so I'll be happy with that. Thanx for all of the help. P.S. never buy 1st mainboard products. I have had more trouble with this damn mobo........... ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! an19c sux. You get what you pay for. Only thing good about my pc is the AMD baby!!!!! | ||
