Default Locking up.

Recently I have been having many problems with the computer locking up. The monitor allways either turns black with lines of different colors across the screen, or the screen will just show a bunch of dots. When this happens it locks up the whole computer not just the video. This may happen in 3d games, at the windows desktop, or even at the bios screen. Sometimes it happens after the computer has been on for a few minutes sometimes after it has been on for hours. Is there anyway this could be being caused by the PSU? I have noticed that the plug that plugs into the motherboard is VERY hot when it locks up but not now when it is working properly. Has anyone had this a similar problem?

I am not over clocking.

Sounds like a video problem. Ensure you have the latest driver for your card, and double check that the GPU fan on your card is still working. Heat could also cause those kind of lock ups.

If the molex that plugs into your mobo is hot, it sounds like it's pulling too much juice for your mobo to handle. Try plugging it straight to the psu instead. Might help.

The fan on the video card is working fine. The system temp runs about 45 °C and the CPU temp runs about 38 °C. I have tried the latest drivers but it didn't make any difference. If it was the drivers it wouldn't be messed up in the bios would it? The ATX plug is the one that gets really hot when it locks up.

How hot does your vid card get?
I was having a heat issue with my Dragon Plus, the vid card would run hot just idle, I think it is the det drivers doing it.
Try going for a previous edition driver.

well keep in mind most vid cards I have had experience with all have crap heatsinks, hence my Ghetto-Blaster mod, but I never thought about a drivers issue. Damn u Duck

Although I did try previous edition drivers and it still acted retarded.
