| I had a few problems with Open GL games and XP on my old 500 mhz K6-2. I used a program that used direct x to get around Open GL. can't remember the name of it, but I will post it if I do. It got horrible frame rates, but it worked. I believe my problem was in the old bios, and I couldn't get it to update. What motherboard are u using? have you updated the BIOS? *EDIT* Here try this>>>>OPEN GL DIRECT I think you can use a trial version, it will let you know if you can run games, or if you have other problems besides a Open GL issue. | Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi, cheers for the responce, my motherboard is an Aopen AK73(A)-V I have never updated the bios before (its about 2 years old) so it could well be that causing the problem. This is probably a bit of a stupid question but how do you go about updateing it as ive never done it before? Thanx steve | |

| I had a problem with opengl games in XP. but it was after I updated the vid driver. Make sure the new vid drivers support it. But My games wouldn't load at all. If they are dropping back to desktop, almost sounds like a problem with not enough memory, but you should have plenty. | ||

| I have an Abit, and had an Asus, both of them support online Bios live updates, I would go to A-Open and see if they have something like it. If not, you have do it on manually, find the updated Bios file(a .Bin file) put it on a floppy and use a flashing program (Depends on what bios you have, Award or AMI bios) Make sure you read up before attempting, A bad flash can make your board unuseable until you replace the bios chip, or find a way to reflash it. Check out the forum archives here and see if you can find articles on bios flashing, or as Slider mentioned, Video driver issues. Just make sure you try everything you can before resorting to a Bios flash. Nvidia has some issues with Xp and Open GL ![]() | ||

| I had a problem where my games (opengl and directx) would alt-tab themselves to desktop. The problem was Folding@home which uses opengl to render the current work unit on your screen. Running two or more games at once will produce the same issue, auto alt-tab to desktop on its own. Annoyed me so bad I was ready to swap video cards, some dude in Rage3D made my day telling me the solution. So, if you run F@H, close it when gaming. If you don't F@H, update all drivers (Video, Audio, Chipset, BIOS, etc). | ||
