Default Darn Squirrels!

So I'm fetching a dot-matrix outta the attic to eBay. Runs a Windows test page fine. Then I notice the electrical cord has numerous chewed places.

DARN SQUIRRELS! [Mighta been a mouse...]

Any idea(s) how to fix? Don't wanna go ghetto electrical tape. Cord itself is not removable unfortunately 'cause I have spares ...

Heat shrink tube? Never done it before but now may be the time to learn....

If your fine with opening up monitors, open it up, solder off the old wire, solder on a new one. If your not fine with opening up monitors then I guess your option is duct tape, electrical tape, or some sort of heatshrink. Good luck.

dude, it is an old printer. Not a monitor. But as he said, just take it apart, and solder new wires in place.

Soldering - Not real thrilled about that investment in time for a printer I'll probably get two bucks for on eBay.

Heat shrink - tell me more

Businesses with multipart forms are the only reason Okidata still makes dot-matrix. I figure one of them will get a bargain.

I hate that picture of me - I couldn't find my matching robin egg blue librarian glasses and so had to wear the white ones - a fashion faux paw

But anyway, tell me how to heat shrink. Like how do I get the tubing over the plug?

well you cant really get the tubing OVER the plug. unless you can find some that will shrink enough. but you buy this stuff at any electronics store that sells repalcement stuff.. you cut it to length, then using a heat gun or a lighter to shrink it.

Heat gun? No ....
Lighter? No ....
Hair dryer???????

which is of course all academic since I can't get the tubing over the plug.

yeah nothing wrong with being ghetto every once in a while

I ghetto-wrapped a reset switch with Scotch Tape, works fine.

Just sell the old thing "as is". Let the new owner worry about nibble marks.

If it was just chewed, I probably would. But it's down to the copper in places and I just can't in good faith let that go.
