Default DVD-RW not detecting blank media

Im having an annoying problem right now. I want to burn a .iso to a cd but my computer isn't detecting any blank media. I have tried different disks(cd-r's and dvd-r's) also I have tried different programs and none of them detect it. Could it have to do with me using Daemon Tools or somthing? I dont get why it's doing this.

this might sound stupid but you might want to check all your cables to make sure they did not come lose, also you might want to update the firm ware for your dvd writer.

I can still use the drive for other things(games) so I doubt it's the cable. I will go look for updated firmware though.

Ok does the DVD writer recognize a movie when you put it in the drive if it does it maybe because of the DVD media or other media you are using what brand name is your DVD writer. and is this the first time it happen or is this a brand new writer you have.

Well I got this writer at christmas. Its a Asus 1608P2.

It did this before but I kinda gave up on it, it's annoying because I really want it to work now.

Well, I found new firmware for my burner but I'm having trouble updating it. I downloaded Nero InfoTool and it says im still using version 1.17(the newest is 1.39).

that happend to mine, it would detect blank CDs/DVDs but when I burned them there was nothing on the disc. Also I could not update the firmware, it would give me an error. Now my drive is dead..I hope you figure it out.

You said that you are using Daemon Tools try uninstalling that and see what happens.

Also this might sound weird but does you computer take a long time to boot up when it gets to the windows splash screen. Mine did after my drive died, after I put a new one in that went away.

when u say its not detecting blank media.. are you talking when you put one in and windows asks what you want to do...

or are you talking about when you try to burn a cd?

What burining software are you using?

Bump

I have a new motherboard on the way and I need to back some stuff up so I really need to use my DVD burner right now. Does anyone know why its not working? I updated the firmware, checked the cable closed daemon tools and it still isn't working. I dont get it.

Another question, if I cant get my DVD burner working what other way could I back up my stuff? I tried just attacthing the stuff I need to an emal but it willn't let me attach a whole folder. Any ideas? EDIT: Nevermind about that. Just put everything in an archive with WinRar and put it in my gmail inbox.

You aren't by any chance using DVD 4 Free or DVD Region Killer? By chance I do, and I know that that is the cause for my drives being tempromental (the disc actually eventually gets recognized but can take a good five minutes because of the aforementioned anti-protection software that in effect with a firmware update allowed my writing drive to use DVD-r instead of just DVD+r).
Now, I really wouldn't suspect there is much physically wrong with the drive (jamming issues would likely have me rid of them before they actually could no longer read)- I had this 16x CDrom drive from the mid-90's that spun and everything (very loudly) , even read and let me install Windows XP from it late last year (heavens knows how it was reading so well - it ate the disc!! ).
I'd be happy to try taking a look at it myself if only the locale were more convenient.
