Default PC Troubles

Last night while I was playing WoW, the game had suddenly froze, but then I began to hear weird noises, like beating noises. After that the game turned off, a Blue Screen (I hope not a BSOD) flashes with writing, but I could not read it, b/c it had just flashed for about 3 secs. So then my PC reboot's, everything went fine, went to the Start up page, but my cursor wouldn't move. So I'm wondering, should I "try" to re-install the software, or did somthing serious happen???

-CKPhil
P.S. I tried to use my mobo's "Update" utilitie on the disc givin, but the disc say's "No ASUS MoBo Found"

Go to

My Computer > System Properties > Advanced > Startup And Recovery - uncheck the
"Automatically Restart" box under the System Failure area

if you get the BSOD again, try writing down whatever error code gives you

and if you're using windows XP (pro) ... go to the Administrative tools > Event Viewer > Application

the error should be listed either there or under System

till then .... who knows what happened

I've seen computer freeze, and the sound driver is stuck in a memory loop and keeps playing a sound over and over until the machine reboots... definitely check the event log and/or uncheck "reboot" on startup options in case it does it again. Could be a heat issue, more likely was something (another application) that barfed all over the memory stack.

That's exactly what I had thought, as the PC started again, I check the PC Probe utility, the temp for the CPU was 47 and the MoBo temp was 41. So today when I go home (@school right now) I'm gonna install the 2 120mm fans just sitting on my desk.

If you are sure there was a BSOD then it was likely caused by some kind of memory error. Most BSODs are actually due to a memory fault (either dodgy read / write commands or more likely errors in the parity bit checking sequences) These can in turn though be brought on by heat issues so get those fans in - especially if your CPU is around 47 (i assume idle...) thats pretty damn hot!

This is really weird, but now everything is working fine. The mouse is running perfect, the PC booted with no errors, so I guess the problem was heat related.
Hmm.... Could it be from "trying" to play Battlefield 2: SF? B4 I started playing WoW, I was trying to get online in BF2?

If you think it may be heat related, use Speed Fan and launch a game, there is a charting utility that will record your temps.

If it's over 50c,then you should look at some additional cooling, also, you also might want to look at your voltages, they should be 12v, 5, and 3.3v (+or- .1v)

Ok, well before I started WoW my temp was 33-34 for CPU and my Mobo was 31-33, after just 2 mins of WoW my temps were 38-39 and my mobo was 33-34. On Saturday my temps were way lower then this while playing WoW, is it normal for the temps to change drastically over 2-3 days?

Temps seem fine. Under 40 is what you are aiming for. Temps can change day to day depending on ambiant temp and several other things so dont worry about that.

If everything is running ok now though then may just have been a 'glitch'... stranger things have happened

Yeah, I suppose it was a glitch. I tried to see the BSOD screen again by playing WoW last night. Stayed on for like 3-4 hours and temp was just around 43-46 and nothing bad happend. (i still havent got around to installing my 2 other 120mm fans.)
