Default Wireless Network and Lappy problem.

The other week I purchased this laptop. From a member here at PCApex. Lappy works good! Now I have this wireless adapter card for the Lappy. And Finally I have this Wireless Router. Now the problem is the laptop can't find the network. The supplied software with the adapter card just sits there and will continue to search for a network forever. Is this as simple as the linksys card and netgear router not wanting to work with each other? And I know the router and network works fine because I use it for my other rigs in the house. And they can all communicate to one another.

Have you got Windows XP SP2 on the machine? I believe that that brings an integrated wireless manager to Windows, which is much better than using supplied card software because it actually works most of the time.

There should be an option in the wireless card software called "enable XP config" or something like that - that will hand over operation of the card to Windows.

Yeah I was trying that also. Didn't mess with that end of things all that much. I may try it again later. But when I did try it I got the same results. Just searching and searching.

The windows one is more likely to work - but if it's still not letting you connect it must be settings somewhere, or a dead card. There's no reason why a LinkSys card shouldn't connect to a Netgear router. Sometimes my Wireless doesn't connect properly - you could try going to network connections, and then disabling and re-enabling the card.

I'm going to mess around with it right now... I'll try and clean out the linksys software and then setup the windows stuff. I'll let ya know what I find.

YOu have to go into services and enable wireless zero config service. If it isn't enabled, wireless won't work.

Yeah I did some searching around online and found out about that. But I still get nothing. I think the card is dead. The power light comes on when its plugged in but the link light never flashes. I might pick up another card and give it a try.

There never was a yellow ! next to it but then last night after messing around for a bit one did show up. I uninstalled the device and the drivers and then rebooted and reinstalled them. It still didn't work.
