Question Computers & Saltwater....hmmmmm

Ok guys. I am trying to design a computer for my cruising sailboat. Problem is SALTWATER!. Anyone know of any non-conductive anticorrsion coatings that would protect the mobo? Also what do think about bonding the mobo to the zinc bonding system on the boat?

1 giant ziplock baggie

one of those yellow thingamajigs they put cameras in

if you look around ive heard of charity sail boat racers that email thier fans/familys they have to have something look up treasure hunters or wreak scavengers i seen something on the history channel about them pulling stuff up and they had computers on board i cant see them replacing everything very often so they must have a method

Your in luck back in the day (HA) when I went to high school I went for marine mechanics classes for two years. Any ways the stuff your looking for is Gelcoat. It's the stuff under your paint on your boat just go to a boating shop and ask for it. One problem is that it comes in little jars so you might need to buy alot! Hope this helps.

I know what your talking about erok, though i dont think gelcoat is what i am looking for, first of all i do not think its non- conductive......second most gelcoats that i have seen are a white color, not clear.

Yes your right it's white and its non-conductive. Why not use silicone? Wouldn't that work? I just worked on boats.... never put a computer in them. Sounds like a good idea to me.

ahhhh dont ya hate it when you answer your own questions

Definition- Conformal coating is the process of spraying a dielectric material onto a device component to protect it from moisture, fungus, dust, corrosion, abrasion, and other environmental stresses. Common conformal coatings include silicone, acrylic, urethane, epoxy, and Parylene. Parylene is a unique polymer conformal coating that conforms to virtually any shape including crevices, points, sharp edges, and flat, exposed internal surfaces.

Coating : Looks like it should work, better @ 17.95 a can!. what do you think?

Still have to solve the bonding issue though
