Default Bios update FAILED!

Well last night I was messing around trying to squeeze that extra little bit of power out of my CPU. When I decieded that I better upgrade my bios since I had the oldest version out there. Now I have an "ASUS K8V" so I went to asus's site and downloaded the newst bios which I think was 1007. So I was looking in the mobo manual and there are like 3 different way's you can update the bios, I choose the simplest one. Which was put the update onto a floppy with the file renamed K8VB.ROM. So I do this, the next step is while the pc is posting hit ALT-F2. I do this and it begins the ASUS EZFLASH thing. The pc searches for a floppy and find the one I have in with the update. It checks the file and all is good, then it begins to erase the bios. At this point it stops cold and says BIOS UPDATE FAILED!. And then it just sat there, I had no choice but to reboot. And now my pc won't even post. So I tried everything know to man to try and get the pc to at least post so I can recover the original bios. But it won't. (and I tried every option.) After doing some research it turns out the EZFLASH update is the worst way to update and has wiped out many people's chips. So I guess now my question is where is the easiest place to pick up another bios chip for my mobo.

And I was starting to get somewhere with my OC too.

I don't think there is anything you can do but replace the bios chip or mobo. For future referance Asus has a utility called winflash to flash the bios from windows. At least this way if it fails you can try again.

yeah I found out about that program after the failure.... guess I should have looked into it a little more... but I've done bios upgrades before and never had a problem.

Does anyone know of a reputable/good site online to purchase a new bios chip.... I don't wanna replace the mobo, cause its still good.

You should be able to get a new bios chip straight from ASUS.

btw- does your board support CrashFreeBIOS? My K8V-SE Deluxe does, and when something like that happens, you pop in the support CD and boot from it to recover the bios. Just an idea.

I have read some horror stories about people trying to get a replacement chip straight from ASUS. So I want to avoid that route. And my board does support CrashFreeBIOS but I can't even get to the point where I could recover from the support CD. When I power on the computer it just gives me a blank black screen, it doesn't post anything. Not even the video card info.

Default 100th post! WOOT!!

Well here is a little update on the situation and not to mention my 100th post here at PCAPEX! After trying everything to get my rig to post I gave up and ordered a new bios chip. I ordered it from http://www.biosman.com , Now this site doesn't look like much but I really couldn't say enough about the service. They charge $25 bucks for a brand new ,programmed to your specification, bios chip. I figure its not all that bad of a price, seeing as how I don't have the equipment to flash a chip myself. And its cheaper than having to buy a new mobo. So if anyone out there is ever in need of a chip I would give them a try. But I popped in my new chip that I recieved today and BAM my pc posted and started right up, no problems what so ever.
Later on,
Bouve124
