Default Canon Powershot 610 probs?

Hey guys, just had a question about my camera and wanted to know if you apexers knew anything about it.
So my residence hall had a broomball night on an ice rink and I took a few pics to keep memories
Anyways, the pictures look great from the camera screen, so I uploaded them to the computer. Problem is, some of the pictures have these wierd pink/green/yellow boxes on them and /or they are distorted. They look fine as thumbnails but as soon as you expand it, the boxes appear. Some of them even fail to "draw" as the picture error message comes up.

Camera: Canon Powershot A610
SD Card: Corsair 133X 1GB

Are some examples. I've only had the camera and mem card for about 3 months. Does anyone know where the problem is occuring? Thanks!

Have you tried to read the card directly from a cardreader, instead of uploading the pics
from the camera? That should narrow it down...

That last guy looks like he was checked a bit too hard.
Can you try swaping the card with another camera and taking pics with both?

Well, it looks like the pictures aren't really coming out anymore. Imageshack must have done something.
Anyways, I only have 1 camera with an SD Card. My other one uses CF. I'm going out tonight and purchasing the ergonomic microsoft keyboard...dunno which one.. 4000? from CompUSA. Might as well pick up a card reader as well.

I must admit... the 4000 is really a darn fine keyboard! If you do a lot of typing... this is your pick!

Hey guys,
So, i went out and purchased a 12 in 1 memory card reader from CompUSA today (which i'm returning tomorrow to get my money back). After reviewing the pictures from the memory card reader, the pictures turned out fine.

So, the problem now lies with the camera.
The pictures viewed from the camera screen look completely fine. Only when the pictures have been transfered over does the picture corruption occur. What do you guys think the problem can be? Would it be the software? The camera still took the pictures and viewed from a card reader, the pictures look fine.

Ok, i found out what the problem was.

I put the USB cable for the camera directly into the back of my computer. The pictures transfered over perfectly fine.
Therefore the problem lies with my USB hub. I have a 7 port USB hub by belkin with two top ports that i believe are two upstream ports. My port is at school, so i can try plugging the camera into the back of the hub.

Until then..... :-p

New update:
So I'm now back at school and I plug the camera back in. I try those same pictures again, and I have the exact same problem again. Except this time, it doesn't matter which USB port the camera is plugged into. Since the card reader gave me perfect pictures, I'm inclined to say that something happened to my camera. I dont know how long Canon's warranty is, but I got the camera shortly after christmas. If it's a 90 day warranty then I may be out of luck :S.

Yup thanks Hojo,
Just talked with Canon Tech Support. Ran the Scanner and Camera wizard and the pictures came out fine. Using a memory card reader is ok as well. Only when using Zoombrowser EX and Camerawindow does this problem occur.

The Support tech had me take pictures and run XP under selective startup and the pictures came out fine. I restarted, took a few more pictures and there was some graphical corruption. At this point, the support tech told me that one of the programs running in the background of my computer is affecting their camera program. The call ended there.

So what do you guys think Should I just use the scanner and camera wizard in XP to get my photos? I dont exactly know how to go about isolating the program that's causing the interference with CameraWindow/Zoombrowser EX.

I always used a card reader when I had my Canon just because it was easier. I now have a Konica/Minolta and I download the pics directly from the camera. I've never had a problem.
