Default Lock up

I just recently had a new computer assembled with everthing upgraded and kept my fingers crossed that it would work well.....unfortunately it doesnt....Hope somebody here can help me.

When the system boots up there are times that everything is just as it is suppose to be (Windows xp Pro)...but usually every thing locks up..cant move the mouse curser and cannot access any programs...I am working thru a router and it states cant see the router. I have another older machine on the router and it has no problem ever identifying the router and it doesnt lock up. I downloaded new driver for the video card because the error messages state "error caused by device driver or video device driver". The video card is a GeForce 6600 and I downloaded drivers from there but the system still does the same thing. Originally the only problem that I had was that I couldnt get my printers to work form this system, but now (when I can operate the system) the printers work but everything locks up. I was told by a fellow at CompUSA that it sounded like the operating system....

Do any of you have any thoughts on it. Thank you very much for your help..

right, first - post your system specs. the more info the better. Did you reinstall windows, or just upgraded components? Are you overclocking?

Secondly, unplug everything (except the keyboard and mouse) and give it a go - If everything works fine, plug in one device at a time (separately) to see if any of them mess with your system

Download Memtest86+. You can download it without charge.... download a floppy image or cd image
write/burn it & reboot with it... then let it just run a couple of hours... with this odd behaviour the first
thing I look at is memory... bad memory can be a royal pain in the butt...

thank you for responding. I have tried everything outside of replacing parts. Do you have a lot of experience in this area?

Boot into safe mode. Run Ad Aware and Spybot scans (or any 2 anti spyware programs of your choice.)
