| I've looked briefly and cant seem to find the answer to this, so i have a small question... I have a network set up in my house but i want a few more ports in my room for internet on my other PC's, do i need a hub or a switch? My first guess was a switch but now im confused ????? | ||

| Tell me exactly what your sefup is and I'll give you the straight skinny. Off the top of my head, I'd say, NEVER EVER BUY A HUB!!!! Always buy a switch. Dedicated inside bandwidth is always better than shared bandwidth. Also, no need to have a flood domain on the network..... | ||

| well... The cable modem and router are in the basement and one line is run to my dads PC on the first floor and one to the second in my room. I just want to have a few ports for 2 or three other computers in my room so they can also access the internet. A switch is what i had in mind but i dont know what would be better for my purpose. | here is the diffrence... hub = stupid.... you send a packet of data... the hub picks it up and then sees if it goes to port 1, if not it moves on to port 2, then 3 then 4... and so on untill it gets the right port. switch = smart... it reads the packet header and then sends it to the right port... | ||
