Default hub or switch?

I've looked briefly and cant seem to find the answer to this, so i have a small question...
I have a network set up in my house but i want a few more ports in my room for internet on my other PC's, do i need a hub or a switch? My first guess was a switch but now im confused?????

Tell me exactly what your sefup is and I'll give you the straight skinny.

Off the top of my head, I'd say, NEVER EVER BUY A HUB!!!! Always buy a switch. Dedicated inside bandwidth is always better than shared bandwidth. Also, no need to have a flood domain on the network.....

well... The cable modem and router are in the basement and one line is run to my dads PC on the first floor and one to the second in my room. I just want to have a few ports for 2 or three other computers in my room so they can also access the internet. A switch is what i had in mind but i dont know what would be better for my purpose.

I had this switch in mind:

here is the diffrence...

hub = stupid.... you send a packet of data... the hub picks it up and then sees if it goes to port 1, if not it moves on to port 2, then 3 then 4... and so on untill it gets the right port.

switch = smart... it reads the packet header and then sends it to the right port...
