Aah I hate when bad things happen to me, my laptop was running slow so I gave it a restart and suddenly it wouldn't boot, I tried safe mode and just got stuck at the script every time.
Eventually got to a logon screen and then my keyboard didn't work so i couldn't enter my password, I connected up a USB keyboard and luckily on a restart got back to the logn screen, still no keyboard detected.

Upon deciding that all is lost I'm now trying to do a re-installation and my computer is having a fit trying to get the CD Drive to work, it keeps forgetting there is a disk every few minutes. I swear that by the end of the might my laptop might be wishing it wasn't so portable becuase it'll be going out the window.

Although I'm pretty sure perseverance will ge the job doen does anyone have any ideas as to what made my craptop die in such a pathetic manner?

Sounds basic I know, but............

Turn off the laptop, pull out the battery for 30 - 45 seconds, and reinstall it.

Works for me every time.

is your hdd loud on your laptop??

is it running on power or battery when it slows down...?

is it slow on a linux live cd?

Well I tried removing the battery and that didn't work so I also tried wiping the CMOS and still no joy.
The hard disk isn't any louder than usual and i've tried it on both battery and mains.
One piece of luck is that it will now let me use a USB keyboard to lgin but thats hardly ideal, I ant to know whats happend to my keyboard, it works to see the bios and boot menus and then just gives up?

if it works in bios... then its a driver issue,.

Long shot, but it sounds like you might have a corrupt install if it works fine in bios but gives you issues in Windows. I'd suggest trying a LiveCD or a WinPE Disc in it just to be sure.

Any ideas on what driver I would need to get for a built in keyboard, and where from?

Ok i'm downloading a LiveCD version of Knoppix, not sure if its what i need though as I don't kniow anythinf about linux distros?

What I don't understand is:
1) It will let me use a USB Keyboard in Windows but not any other time.
2) My laptop Keyboard works in the Bios and boot menus but not in the Windows re-installation menu.

God I can't even re-install, this machine is crapped.

The fact that you can't use your keyboard in the Windows Install program means it is not likely a corrupt install but maybe BIOS corruption or some hardware defect. My guess is some odd HW defect.

Is your laptop still under warranty?

ifit is bios corupption... he can reflash the bios.... even if its the same revision...

Yeah it is still unhder warrenty, I'm considering RMA'ing it.

Thrill Kill Howe would I go about flashing the Bios, I'm not sure if I would be able to get a copy of it?

Well we have signs of life again, I got severly fecked off and decided to rip the Bios battery out again, obviously I didn't take it out for long enough last time because now my laptop works perfectly, I'm still going to do a fun re-install just in case though.
