Default Stain "inside" monitor?

While I was cleaning my monitor the other day I noticed something that looked like some sort or residue on the screen. After many attempts to clean it it won't come off. I think some how it's on the inside of the screen. I have no idea how that would even happen. I've tried windex on a paper towel (crt screen) and Endust wipe for electronics. I can't feel anything with my fingers. Here are a few pictures of what it looks like.

Please Help!!!

Does it appear when the monitor is on? It would be the phosper screen inside the monitor (which is impossible to get too)

Ya, as long as you can't see it when you're using it, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's actually inside the tube, there's nothing you can do about it anyway.

It's there when I turn the screen off also. And I can see it even as we speak.

Then get a new monitor...Or wait, Did you try the degausing option in your monitors menu? (It probably wont help if it appears when the monitors off, but humor me)

Looks like you might need a new monitor. What size monitor is it? I've got a 17" HP monitor at home I might be able to sell to you if you want to replace it. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you.

I'd hate to have to replace it. It's a 21" crt and it's still very usable except for that "thing". I just want to know what it is.

But, thanx for the offer. Next time around I'll prob go 19" or 21" lcd

No problem. I'd have trouble going from 21" to 17" too.

Hang onto it as long as you can. Try to hold out until Vista comes out as that will be the next big upgrade cycle.

Are you 100% certain it's on the inside of the screen? I've got an IIyama 17" CRT with markings similar
to yours... upon careful examination with a magnifiyng glass I found out the coating on the outside
had been damaged... now I just use it on my server... hardly need to look at that monitor anyway...

Dragon,
To answer your question, No I'm not sure it's on the inside. As a matter of fact, it does make more sense that something has worn out on the outside. I didn't know anything could wear out on the outside. Could it have been something I cleaning it with? That's the only thing that ever went neat the monitor.

Thanx
Steve

Unfortunately, yes... some anti reflective coatings on monitors deteriorate by the chemicals in certain
cleaning products...
