Help Laptop Messed Up!

My computer was fine this morning and I installed AntiVi personal edition just to see what the program was like, I came home after school and my computer was extremely slow (left it on while at school), then I turned it off and booted back up an hour later. It booted fine but now when I click any icons nothing happens at all. Nothing! I turned it off, booted up again just now and it booted fine but no programs will open. Help!

(using windows xp home edition)

(Also when I try to boot in safe mode it goes to a black screen and just stays there. It says safe mode in the corners but just a black screen, it has like always done this)

Have you tried any of the following:

Restore Point to prior to install of AV
Remove the AV you installed, and make sure you clean the registry
Tried to repair the program

Which brand of anti-virus did you install? Where did you get it from? It may have contained a virus if you got it from a less than reputable place.

The Name of the program is AntiVir Personal Edition Classic. How do you restore to prior like u said? I can't open practically any programs up.
