I think this is the cheapest way to do it..... USB to USB Direct Link Cable http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...DIRECT&cat=CBL

| you could always use a roll over cable, they allow two PC's to communicate with each other directly (in most cases, this is faster than using the USB interface). When you compare the wires that are in the RJ-45 connectors, they're the reverse of each other. They're also easy to make. How would you like to access (your files I am guessing) from your router? | ||

Also Called Cross Over Cable ![]()

| Network cables: The rollover and crossover cables mentioned are actually two different kinds. A rollover, as stated above does have the wires in reverse order, to make one, do one end normally, and do the other end the same way, but with the RJ45 jack upside down. A crossover has one end normal, and on the other end you swap wires 1 and 3, 2 and 6 (if I am remembering correctly) If you are going PC to PC, you would want a crossover. I think you would just hook the 2 pc's up, and use the network wizard. Or if you want to use the router, I think it is about the same, plug the pc's in and use the wizard. Depending on the router, you may need to use a 'straight' cable (both ends the same). Most routers and switches sense the cable, so a straight or crossover could be used. Good luck! E | ||

| I'm not sure what all the talk about crossovers is for. If you have two PCs running XP and a router, hook them both up to the router with standard network cables, run the network wizard, then transfer all the files you want. If only one is running XP, run the wizard on that one first, then create a NetSetup floppy to run on the other. Reboot them both and you should "see" the other computer in My Network Places. Drag-and-drop files as you please to the shared folders, or enable sharing on specific folders by right-clicking them and enabling sharing under Properties>Sharing. That's all there is to it. | ||

| I'm presuming you mean a router with switch ports..... In that case, do what wordbiker said. If you don't have a router with switch ports on it then there are two easy ways, as mentioned above: Crossover Cable USB Cable All three of these are very easy.... once you figure out which one you are going to attempt, ask for help here and you shall receive... | ||

| Thanks Splitter, I don't think I was entirely clear on that point, but none of us were given enough information to work with. TMK, I made the assumption that you did have a router based upon your thread title and your further mention of it, and since most routers do have switch ports, that you were able to hook both PCs up at once. Specifics that would help you get the most accurate answers are:

First thanks for all those answers. So here you go I have an D-Link di-504, my motherboard is an asus p5nd2-sli NOT DELUXE with onboard network. The two pc's have windows xp sp 2 installed and I just want to files transfer. I would like to know if there is anyway wich is free (nothing to buy) wich can help me just transfer files like songs or some stuffs like that. Thank you again TMK

OK TMK...this is a piece of cake. Your router does have 4 ports, so that part is fine. While the P5ND2-SLI doesn't have dual onboard NICs like the Deluxe does, it does have a single NIC, and that's all you need. If you have two network cables, just plug both machines into your router at the same time. Run the Network Wizard (under Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections>Set up a home or small office network) and follow the instructions. As long as everything is plugged in and enabled, just walk through it. I recommend naming your network something other than the default. Once the Wiz is done with both machines, reboot them and on your desktop you should have a My Network Places icon. Open it up and you should see your other machine. Drag and drop files to the default shared folders, or share more according to my instructions above. Best of luck with it!
