Default Random Hangups

Hello fellow pimps and pimpettes,

I've been having a strange problem lately. I recently ran the Ultimate Benchmarking Challenge @2.357Ghz (up from 2.2Ghz). After running this (with no problems), I installed CATALYST v5.7 for my vid card. Ever since then, the computer has been unbelieveably unstable. It'll lock up randomly, then the screen will go blank. So, I turned up the voltage on the proc a bit (that usually helps me). No difference. I uninstalled just CATALYST, and installed the NGO optimized drivers. It seems to be running better, but it still locked up while playing CS: Source (about 15 minutes of solid playing).

I don't think I fried anything, but lately i've been noticing that the vCore reading has been fluctuating. Stranger still, i'll set it to "1.55" in the BIOS, and it reports between 1.50 and 1.54 in both CPU-Z and Speedfan. I'm thinking my power supply is finally dying, or that some power circuitry is going bad on my mobo. I realize that i'm not supposed to run that high on the vCore, but it gets unstable while set at 1.50.

What do you all think?

Try a mem test first............just to see how your mem is holding up............but, it could be your PSU......maybe it's time to upgrade to a better PSU...........

I recently ran a mem-test to make sure, and it was OK. I've been thinking it's my PSU, so i've got an OCZ Modstream 520W in the works.

Oh, and a quick update, I turned off Cool'N'Quiet, and it's much more stable. DO NOT ASK ME WHY IT WAS ON!!! I honestly don't remember turning it on.
