Default driver problems, i think

I have a giga-byte GA-K8NSNXP mobo, athlon 64 3200+, and a bfg geforce 6800 gt oc. I install windows, and everything is happy. I install the chipset driver and restart, and everything is still happy. THEN when i install the video card driver, and restart, everything is NOT happy. It wont fully boot up, it stays black, but shows me my mouse cursor. Then it occasionally wont let me move the mouse around in this blackness. What the frick is it? One friend said i might not be dishing out enough power, so i bought a new psu, and no difference.

what drivers are you using? the cd that came with the card? download them from www. nvidia.com? omega drivers?

have you tried the card on other mobos? or in your bios, do you have the primary graphics set to agp?
have you tried another vid card in your mobo?

need more details here man....

If you want to try to re-install your drivers Ctrl+Alt+Delete then kill explorer then "run" "explorer"

You should be back to normal at that point and able to mess around again.

sorry. ive used the latest chipset driver, version510, that is available on the website. for the video card, ive used what came with the card, which is version 4.2, and the latest available from the nvidia website, which is labeled as 77.72. I dont have another mobo to test it with, but it used to work on my old intel board. i also dont have access to another vid card. the bios settings are set to agp.

Make sure the moldex cable from the PSU is plugged into the card and make sure the card is seated fully......................You might want to try the card on another system to see if the card is FUBAR'd....

If you hit f-8 as windows loads, it will put you in safe mode, and the video driver will not load then.

Did you run Driver Cleaner to wipe out old stuff before trying to install them?

Did you install DX-9c?

Ok, so ive narrowed it. I did, once again, another fresh format, followed by an install. This time, I skipped the chipset driver install, and went straight for the video card driver. It did the problem again. Ive used the version that came with my card, and the version that is most recent via the Nvidia website. so what is left to do? i really dont want to get a new video card, since i spent 400 bucks on this one last summer.
