Default Comp Wont Turn On Troubleshoot Advise please.

I am kind of stumped on this one. The computer will not even get power. When I flip the PSU switch I can hear it try to get power and my videocard LED turns on for a split second. Also my water pump clicks once like it was about to get power ( I have the PCI slot controller for the h2o pump). You can see my rig setup in my sig. First thing I tried was the PSU, went to store and bought a new one to find out the same problem existed. Then I even tried switching out the case power button and that didnt fix it (it was a long shot). The RAM is brand new (couple weeks old) and its good stuff. The only thing in the computer that is actually got some years behind it would be the motherbaord which is just over 3 years old. The CPU is less than 6 months old I believe. What sucks is that it died while I was sleeping so I am not sure what happened. What I can tell you is that before I went to sleep our house blew a fuse so the comp restarted and then while boot up it blew again but in the end it rebooted fine. Of course this has happened lots in the past with no problems. The only thing I think it could be is the mobo died, this is a tough problem to troubleshoot however. The board isnt even under warrenty any more so I would have to by a whole other one just to test if that is the problem ( and of course I would have to buy at newegg since their prices are unbeatable). Do you guys have any ideas? I appreciate the help.

My only thought is that the system is shorting out but since you said it died and you weren't messing around on the inside. I have no idea.

Ya the last thing that the comp was doing was defragging my system drive and I was playing a movie in media player then I fell asleep.

Just a suggestion but did you take the mobo out and have a close look at each and every capacitor etc to check for any blown ones or any scorch marks on the board?

Do you have another rig to test components in and verify they are good?

Jump the Green and a black on the PSU ATX and power up a fan or two to ensure that the PSU is working properly.

How exatcly do I do that Akita, I have never done it before. Just run a little wire from green to black and flip the switch? And do I make sure that all the other plugs are unplugged except for the fan I am testing? To answer Human Traffic I dont have any computers in the house that can run my components or visa versa. I havent takent he mobo out because it is a serious pain in the arse with water cooling but I did look around and the board seems 100% ok which is almost a bad thing lol. Thanks so far guys.

Bend a paperclip into a U and insert one end into where the green wire is, and another into a black ground pin. Unhook everything else except for a couple of fans. Plug it in, flip the switch, and duck.

Just kidding, I've done it quite a few times.

If your PSU does turn out to be good you might want to check you water cooling connection and see if any water has ,ade its way out

Welp, I check edmy PSU when I got home from work with the green to black deal and my 2 120mm rad fans turned on with no hesitation. I really doubt there was a water leak since I have been running this loop for a while with no problem. I will check it as well as I can after I finish up with some things I need to get done today. Thanks for help with the PSU AKita, that trick is pretty cool .

Well the power has tripped ALOT in this house and there hasnt been problems. The night the comp died the power tripped then tripped again while it was booting. Thent he comp booted fine after. It died sometime after that in the night. There could have been another blown fuse in the night that I dont know about but I dont think so.... What exactly is a brown out and how do I test this?

You can't test for a "Brown out".........a "Brown Out" is when you lose power and then it comes back......but only at a reduced level...........it typically happens during the summer when power usage is high.

This situation can crap out almost any electrical appliance in your home; TV's, Refridgerators and computers.......It might have done something to your hard drives.......

Ah ok I know what your talking about now. Am I wrong to assume that this problem has to be the mother board if I disconnect everything including fans, HD's, CDroms, all pci slots empty, no video card and the thing still wont start? I basically was running the mother board and PSU.

I would think you are right and its the mobo. I guess it could be linked to the CPU but I doubt it, more than likely the motherboard.

Ever considered getting a UPS? At work we use APC units, cheap ($60e) but they provide battery power for 15 mins and the software will shut your PC down if an when the power is out for longer than (well you specify anywhere upto the 15 mins). They are supposed to "clean" the power and prevent spikes, so all round protecting your rig. Just a thought.

If your PSU checks out ok.....then it very well maybe the mobo........and then I'd get a UPS for your rig just in case ...............

Well got everything installed and the new motherboard fixed the problem. Pretty strange way for the mobo to die but all is better now. On a side note, I like this Asus much better so far
