Default dual monitor issue.

i've just set up a dual monitor dooh daah but whenever I play a game and drag my mouse too far to the right it goes over to the next monitor. Is there anyway to stop this happening, like i'd have to hold down a certain button to allow the mouse to go over to the other screen when certain programs (games) are running?

I'd imagine this is a common problem but not much luck searchin the forums.

If all else fails, You may be able to just turn the moniter off, or if that doesn't work, unplug it from the computer.

Other than that, I do not know, sorry.

the fact the your mouse can move over to the other monitor has nothing to do with drivers, what card it is or what OS. it is purely the game that can control that. if the game didnt put full boundaries, then there is no way for you to stop this.

it happens to me. running certain games. if just a matter of getting used to it.

But, If you remove the other moniter, then there is no way for the mouse to go over there, is what I'm saying.

I was under the impression that with some drivers that you would be able to restrict it so that when you do play games, it doesn't allow the mouse to move to the other monitor. (puts boundary limits). I haven't had that issue.

I guess that the other option as (I forget who) was suggest was that before you start a game, disable the second monitor. *shrug*

I think ultramon can disable dual screens when you play games, but I haven't seen this option.

Have you tried patching this game?

messing around yesterday you could remove the setting saying "extend desktop to this comptuter" and it stopped happening.

Well the last time I tried running it with MOHAA, I haven't tried with any other game. but all I really play are FPS and the odd racing game.

Just glanced over the thread & thought I'd post up.

From my experience the majority of RTS's have this crappy lack - of - barrier that lets the mouse walk over to the other screen.

No doubt this is being removed / realised in new games etc but at the moment it can be really annoying (its made me tab out of play a few times).

Simplest solution for me (in RTS) was to just use the direction keys instead of the mouse.

To pick up where haider254 left off, since control panel is geared up towards relatively permanent changes ,I'd advise using something like ultramon to give you quicker / easier access to various different configs.

is there a feature on ultramon that stops this happening?

I was hoping to still be able to take the mouse pointer to the other screen when in game but only when holding down a certain button for example, so I could browse the net whilst waiting to respawn or control music and control server console programs.

so much easier just to have a separate computer for that purpose. Doesn't mess with the game. Plus, I've played a couple of games were I was fighting and Dope came on. )

wish I had money for one.

But just got a trial of ultramon and it looks like you can assign a hotkey to disable/enable the secondary monitor and lock mouse to primary monitor. Now, I haven't got my secondary monitor on at the moment so I can't try it out but that looks pretty promising.

well, I threw on my other monitor and it allows me to flip the mouse onto the other monitor but it wont let me control anything. As in the pointers there but it wont let me click on stuff. I'm sure with a little playing around it'll let me

This ultramon's quite good, I thought it would be rubbish but it's surprisingly good.

Ultramon is one of the few programs that is worth the very little ram it eats up. a very versatile prog for keeping you sane with extra real estate on the desktop.

for what you are trying to do. Go to ultramon options and go to Hotkeys tab. then simply scroll down the list of commands and setup a key combo to enable disable secondary moniter. Mine is ctrl+ alt+ z also enable center mouse on primary moniter and if it does stray you can pull it back or for those with virtual desktops or who lose the mouse pointer it will put it smack in the center of the first moniter.
My setting ctrl + alt + x

as far as ultramon as a program it is the best at what it does, from controlling several moniters on several cards (years ago I ran a geforce 2 gts and 2 voodoo 3 pci cards to get three moniters) or for one card with several moniter support, it is the best.

beats the nvidia and radeon drivers for multimoniter setups and is hellaciously faster and less cpu wasteful.

for those who game and do everything else (yes surprisingly there is life for pc's outside of gaming ) I highly recommend getting ultramon. Those with the prog please dont flame me this isnt really for you obviously those who didnt like it before try the 2.5 version, the bugs from the older versions are being worked out or have been.

I have been using ultramon for 2 years now. Try out some dual monitor wallpapers from deviant art, then use ultramon to strech em across both screens(wondows wont, it just mirrors them).

http://browse.deviantart.com/wallpaper/dualdisplay/

Also, im not sure if you knew this or not. It gives you the ability to have a task bar on the other monitor for tasks that are open on that monitor, or mirror the normal one.

I great app.

Thats a resized picture of my current desktop, its 2 x 19" monitors with some crazy 3500x somethign resolution.
