Can't Watch Video's Files Help!!!

CAN'T WATCH VIDEO'S FILES HELP!!!

I reinstalled windows.

And I did all the windows updates.

Can't watch movies, dvd's or any video type of files. Please help.

Not even VLC will play files.

It was all after video driver updates problems started.

I did update video drivers but is was the newest driver Than what I had.

Also the windows desktop is looking funny and hurts my eyes after a while like it does not refresh right or some thing.

If I left anything out that you might need to know let me know I respond quickly.

XP2400
XP PRO SP2 (ALL WINDOWS UPDADATES)
1GIG PC 2700
MSI 5200 128MB
1 80 GIG HARD DRIVE
1 LITEON DVD BURNER DUAL LAYER

Revert back to the old version of the drivers?

whats the error mesage u get when trying to paly something ? no codec ? etc.. ?

No error, Just sound that's all no video.

These are the drivers which one?

I downloaded the 5th one down since I have a 5200 fx. It's nvidia.

Use driver cleaner and start re-installing your video card drivers, or start over by re-installing XP would be my ideas.

Of course I think you should play around in the ATi control panel a bit. I had a similar problem, the "overlay" (for video I think) gamma/brightness was set very low, so things would play. But so dark it would just look black, but the sound would be there.

EDIT \\ If it errors when it goes to play, its most likley your codec. \\ EDIT :

it does that me me when the codec isnt there, but what u mean driver ? as in video card driver ?, if so and your desktop looks funny, mabie u should uninstall it clean it with driver cleaner and install another one, have u tried playing a game ? does it run fine ? do the videos at the game start run ?

I just reinstalled xp.

Yeah games work but llok wierd. yeah run fine just looks funny. Yeah the videos at the games start run.

Sounds like a driver issue. Sometimes, if i drag a playing video between monitors itll go black.

That's due to most drivers supporting video playback only on the primary monitor. Drivers for all of the professional graphics cards I've owned except for the Quadro4 800 have allowed me to play a dvd movie on the secondary display while working on the primary.
