Default 3dmark05 help

As most of you already know, I tried running the 3DMark05 on the new system and it came back with a BSOD for 3Dl2dd. Tried googling it to find out what it is, but couldn't find any info on it. Any ideas what it could be? or why 3DMark05 would cause a BSOD? (So that, that is the only known application to do that that I've encountered.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try downloaing a new copy from another site, it might be corrupted. When was the last format of the hd?

Otherwise you might have something unstable in your system that it is exposing, like a weak power supply or unstable OC

downloaded it off majorgeeks.com , FL mirror. *shrug* looks to me like it installed fine. (another dumb question - - how DO I get it to run? every single time I try to run the actual benchmarks, it says that there are no benchmarks selected, and when I DO try to select the benchmarks, it says that I need the full/pro version. The results are you guys are posting, is that just the demo that you guys are running??? *lost*)

Power supply is a Antec True430, with an ATX12V to EPS12V adapter. (I don't HAVE to use it, but I figure that it would be easier, and somewhat cleaner.)

Everything else runs fine. That is the only issue that I've come across, and I honestly have NO answer for it. *totally lost* ergo...uh...help? *scratches my head* (Could THEORECTICALLY try to make it do it again, and post/submit the Windows error log message thingy here to see if anybody can help debug it. It just surprises me why a benchmark (of all things) would cause a BSOD.

Wait a minute..u cant get it to run (Nothing checked) but get a BSOD?

It realy sounds like a Fubar'd install/download, since that is the only app to give you problems, and the fact it doesnt' allow you to run it kinda clinches it

I have the pro version, but have used the free version, the free version does not allow you to run only certain portions of the test, like skipping the CPU part like I do when ORB racing. It also allows you to keep as many tests as you want, the free version limits you to like 5.

In the TRIAL version, you will only be able to run the first 3 game test and 2 CPU tests and that's it..............

System specs?

Just install and run (no need to select/unselect options)

Could be that your video card doesn't support some feature needed to run?

I think he needs the latest DirectX9c drivers in order to run 3DMark2005 and his video card doesn't support it.........

It will tell you to install when you try to load 05....and what kind of video card does he have that won't work with DX-9c? a 4MB PCI?

DX-9c works fine with my old Riva TNT, but I wouldn't dream of running 3dmark 05 on it

Sounds like vid card problem to me. I figured id OC my 7500 2 weeks back and run it. No Dice.

If you are going to do the free version you get the the basic tests. No options. and 2 CPU tests. Like he said.
Dont mess around with settings. Make sure all your settings on your card are set to application controlled. Should work then. If not re-DL it. Then go pay for it for cristsakes. You can tweak it then. You get the reassurance that it will work.

everything's a new install with the latest and greatest.

plugged in the drive yesterday, got Win XP on it. downloaded DxRE 9c from MS. Got the latest drivers, and the latest copies of just about everything.

Is PixelShader 2.0 a DX thing or is that a ATi/nVidia thing?

If it is a DX API thing, this is what is says on the datasheet for the video card:

Quote:
Supported APIs:
OpenGL 2.0 (full support when ratified)
OpenGL 1.5 with OpenGL Shading Language
Microsoft DirectX 9.0 with High Level Shading Language (HLSL, VS 2.0, PS 3.0)

Isn't the first time that I've had issues with it, but the first time that I can say for certain that if anything, the video card should NOT be the issue (given that it has DX9 support at the hardware level).

I think the "PS 3.0 " is probably refering to PixelShader 3.0.

Forgive me if ive missed something, but i dont believe you've mentioned what video card you're using.

Using my amazing powers of deduction, id guess your trying to use a 3DLabs Realizm 100 or 200.

Non?

After looking at your profile it says you have a AIW 9600, so that is definately not the issue, please state all critical hardware when asking for tech help.

Here are a few tips in general for all, as a reminder:

Motherboard, CPU, Memory, Power Supply, Hard Drive/ OS (Win XP etc...) and of course Video Card is the bare minumum...alot of people like to list it in there sig for time saving.

Settings like Memory timings, voltages (CPU Memory and NB)and Load temps!, not just idle temps are critical for diagnosing problems.

Get Speed Fan for temps, Folding@Home and Prime 95 for stability testing....these will give us load temps, and we can also see what your power supply is doing in the voltage dept under load.

I suggest you also try PCPITSTOP.com, it's a free online benchmark that checks overall system health, gives you a score to compare with, and suggests possible fixes. It has caught more bugs for me than I can ever explain.

A screenshot with CPUZ, Crytal Cpuid or CBID with temps/voltages is handy too.

I still say it's a bad download, or possibly OS/Driver related...could be power supply or memory timings...but not likely if you pass Folding or Prime 95 for 12 hours, I'd say the sytems stable.

Necro, hes actually using a 3Dlabs Realizm 200, not an AIW 9600.

Possibly some kind of compatability between 3DLabs cards and 3DMark? I doubt Futuremark expect many people to be gaming with 3Dlabs cards....

OOOOH....that one....oh hehe....no no no no....that's not system's not even in the country! it's remotely deployed.

Here are the specifications:

Tyan S2875ANRF
dual AMD Opteron 246 (2.0 GHz)
Crucial 1GB PC2100 ECC Registered
Antec True430 with ATX12V->EPS12V adapter
Hitachi HUS103073FL3800
Adaptec 19160
Win XP Pro 5.1.2600
3DLabs Realizm 200

Memory timings
2.5-3-3-(I THINK)-8-5-2 (will have to confirm that) - it's whatever the default setting is.

CPU: 200x10 (stock)
Load temps: CPU0 36 C CPU1 40C (from Tyan System Monitor) at 69 F ambient. (I've had dnet running ever since the system was up. Crunching RC5-72 at 16Mkeye/s) Must be running aggregiate now for two weeks total? Something like that. Been running on that system for the last 36 hours straight.

I tried listing my stuff in my sig but it was too long. So I stopped.

I ran aquamark just fine. 3dmark05 is the ONLY one to give me problems. It's a (gaming) benchmarking. It's not supposed to cause BSODs! If there are similar benchmarks along that level, let me know and I'll try 'em. If my card was consistently having issues, then I would agree that it's my card. When 3dmark05 is the ONLY one to have problems, and causes a BSOD, I can't help but wonder if the program is flawed at some point.

Yeah..that card has probably not been tested with 05, so who knows what can happen, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have the latest version of it, or the patch for the older version? just checking.

You could also try 3DMARK 03, or maybe a game demo like HL-2 or Doom 3

*sidenote*

Here's the version of 3DMark05 that I have as listed on my server:

Code:
$ ls -l 3DMark05_v120_installer.exe
-rw-r--r-- 1 share	share	297217560 Jul 6 13:43 3DMark05_v120_installer.

md5 (3DMark05_v120_installer.exe) = 863fefcc0ad2e35a557560f2f095f06f
here it is for 3dmark2001se

Code:
$ ls -l 3dmark2001se.exe

3dmark05 source: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadge...5469dc8728ff80

*baffled*

Can I download a HL2 or D3 demo? Like does one exist?

*slight edit*
the DTS is wrong (i.e. not the original DTS that I downloaded it) because I had it sitting on another server, and transferred it using FTP to run the md5 check. Anybody know what the master md5 for the file should be?

Here's the original DTS
Code:
$ ls -l 3DMark05_v120_installer.exe
-rwxr--r-- 1 share	share	297217560 Jul 2 00:03 3DMark05_v120_installer.

$ ls -l 3dmark2001se.exe
-rwxr--r-- 1 share	share	41780867 May 28 01:45 3dmark2001se.exe
*edit*
here's the CPUID of the processor (i didn't bother taking one of each processor because it would have been exactly the same - save some space and load time.)

Attached is also the results from the Tyan System Monitor Console.

Also note that I am using Arctic Silver 5 and Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 (A1838) for both.

*edit* (damn...am I going to have to start a revision block again!???)
added Sandra benchmark pictures

needed a second post becuase I got more pictures now

adjusted the memory timings to the following

CL 2.5
RAS 3
Tras 6
Trp 3
Trrd 2
Trc 9
Trfc 10
Trwt 3
Read preamble 8.0 ns
Asynchronous 9.0 ns

That's about as much tweaking as I can do on this system.

*edit*
returned the memory back to stock and this is the result

*edit*
LOL....prolly one of the worst 3Dmark03 scores in history (well...besides my VP)

3Dmark03
2924

BUT...it DOES run though. Going to try the 3Dmark05 now.

*edit*
Here's something interesting - see the picture of 3dmark05! 0.o???

*edit*
Found another flaw in 3DMark05

I tried running on my Wildcat VP 970 and while it detected the Pixel Shader correctly this time, it incorrectly identified it as a PCI card and says that the AGP slot is available. Last time I checked, the Wildcat VP never existed as a PCI variant!

Yet another one of those things that make me go....*hmmm........*

Apparently it did the same thing with the Realizm 200. huh...I didn't even notice that before.

Do you have Service Pack 1 or 2 installed? I know you need SP1 to run most of anything stable. I reformatted and forgot and everything kept crashing I was like WTF!!!

Didn't the program came out pre SP1/2? I don't see how that would affect it. (and so, no, I don't have it installed.) Can't do that now because there are programs that will not work with SP2 installed and SP1 opens the system up to more vulnerabilities while it fixes other.

I also suspect that because the Realizm has PS3.0, the program doesn't know what to do with it so it thinks that it's PS1.1 or earlier. The card also has DX9 native hardware support, so that can't be an issue either. (see the datasheet on 3DLabs' website: http://content.3dlabs.com/Datasheets/realizm200.pdf)
