diagnostic programe?

does anyone out there know of a good diagnostic programe for win xp pro.i have a few probs with my rig and i am trying to sort them out.to cut a long story short - everytime i open a programe(even add/remove)after a few seconds i get the message that the programe has encounted a problem and has to close down etc etc.i did a reformat and still get the same prob.(even offline).i thought it may be a hardware conflict.i have two different sticks of ddr400 ram(1 is legend 512 and the other is a compaq stick of 512)i will remove the compaq stick and see how that goes.other wise i am at a loss.any suggestions anyone?

xp3200@stock with stock hs/f
1x512ddr400 - adata
1x512ddr compaq
40 g w/d hdd
gforce 6200 agp
320w icute psu

thanks for the prog dex.i think i have it sussed.i updated the 6200 driver and things seem to have settled a bit.will let you know after i run a few things
