![]() ![]() | Well, should I do it... Please let me know any experiences you guys have had with the 64bit system... I'm thinking that if I go with the X2, I kinda have to go with the Xp64, to make real use of the X2 right? I have to decide by Monday if I want it or not... And should I get the Athlon X2 cpu ?? I was going to go with the Dfi nf4 ultra mobo (non-sli, but the tweak can make it Sli if I want)), geforce 7800gtx and the X2 cpu as my upgrade... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Any single core 64 bit proc will make use of an 64 bit OS, the X2 is 64 bit just like the original Athlon 64s, theres just two cores there. The X2 will provide a huge performance increase once games and other software is coded to take advantage of multithreading and 64 bit extensions. Not so much use at the moment however, the vast majority of games are 32 bit and single threaded. If you've got the money though, id do it. The process can be simplified using the following equation: (Athlon 64 X2 4800) + (Geforce 7800GTX) = ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() | In regards to the XP 64-bit question... The software has a few flaws (whoda thunkit) at the moment, but they are "working to resolve the problems". First and foremost, you need to make sure that you can get drivers for your current software. This seems to be the major issue with most people upgrading to the 64-bit version. Also, if you have Windows XP Professional M$ is offering a free upgrade plan. The plan consists of turning your current license back in to Microsoft and they will ship you a DVD containing the new software (you pay shipping). After you install the software, you lose the ability to use the key for your 32bit version and are granted full and unlimited use of the 64-bit version. If this is an option for you, you can always order the software and just not install it until drivers are available. After all, this will save you having to purchase a new retail/OEM copy of the 64-bit version. I hope this helps answer your question.
