Default Props to Tech. Support

I am doing something that rarely ever gets done: Giving Props to Technical Support.

My Internet went down the other night, and I assumed it was the viruses that my brother fixed. When it still hadn't come up, I ran Safe Mode checks for both viruses and spyware, both of which came up negative.

Now for the fun part. My AIM would still connect to the outside world, but absolutely nothing else.

I called Cox Tech Support here in Tulsa, And got James. He listened to everything I had to say, and then eventually troubleshooted (sp? g?) my Linksys Router. PROPS JAMES!!!

Anyway, with the rash of "I Hate Technical Support Idiots" threads I have been reading lately, just thought I would shed some light on some Technical Support groups that are actually making a difference by listening and helping to solve problems.

Eh....so I am lazy

I won't deny that.

I was just a bit happy that twas all....after having to deal with a bunch of different tech support companies that have out-sourced *cough* linksys *cough*, I thought I might just post my thanks.....I do, however, now remember reading that post.

O well, I needed to reformat my mom's computer again anyways........

That's funny, everytime I have to call Cox to tell them to fix something on there end, I always get the big run around.

Cox, "Did you reset your modem and restart your computer?"
Me, "No more than half a dozen times."
Cox, "Are you using a router or a firewall."
Me, "Never when I call you guys, because you don't support either."
Cox, "We don't support routers or firewalls."
Me, "Uh..yeah."
Cox, "What kind of modem do you have?"
Me, "Motorola Surfboard."
Cox, "We don't support that modem."
Me, "You mean you don't support the modem you sold me?"
Cox, "Uh...no sir."
Me, "You may want to bump me up to one of the really snotty guys on level 2 so they can they can tell me to reset my modem and give me crap about my equipment for thirty minutes before they fix what's wrong on your end."

I've yet to call Cox and actually have something wrong with my equipment, but 9 out of 10 times they blame it on my router or my computer or my modem.

Cox, "I've reprovisioned your modem, try the internet now. (Super snotty here.) You do know you have to reset your modem everytime you change connections?"
Me, "Oh duh...well gosh mister level 2 tech, I'm such an idiot. Now then...you want to tell me how resetting a modem is going to fix my connection when it's not provisioned? And how in the hell did it become un-provisioned in the first place? You gonna blame that on my router too, should I call Cisco next time you turn off my service or Abit like the level one tech suggested?
Cox, "Can I help you with anything else sir?"
Me, "No, I think you've wasted enough of my time. Thanks ever so much for trying to blame your screw-ups on me once again."

Had that one happen too, but for the most part, the guys in tulsa have been more than helpful. I just try and overspeak them in technical terms, and they tend to shut up and listen to what i have to say.

A whole lot better than Valor DSL though.....and faster too.....
