Question What do you think of this setup?

Didnt really know to which part of the forum to attach this too.. But i guess "Pc Help" describes this the best. So anyways, So allright, my system is a little old (not that i am complaining on the specs or anything) and i thought up of an upgrade which i hopefully will arrange to buy in the next month or so. Less cost the better.. So here is the set up
- DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D (got 2 PCIe 16x slots, a possibilty to convert the mobo to an SLI, which many people did, and its easy)
- MSI NX6600GT-TD128E Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express. Probably the best PCIe with SLI support video card under a 200 dollar range. So, what do you people think of it?

p.s. I also read that for the dfi mobo you need a 24pin power supply, i dont want to waste another 100$ on it, so my question is will it work with a 20-24 pin converter? (without me clocking anything and not changing mobo voltages)

go for an xfx 6600 GT. they OC better. very nice mobo. you don't need a 24 pin power cord, just as long as you have the p4 connector you'll be fine. or better yet make sure your power supply has a 24 pin connector.

what cpu are you gonna use?
and how much mem?
with that mobo your planning on OC'n.... right?

Your current PSU may serve you well still... what Wattage is it and who made it? YOu don't need teh 24 pin converter. I am running an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe mobo that has a 24 pin connector and I am using an Ultra Products 600W PSU which has a 20pin connector on it. As long as you use the existing 20 pin and the 4 pin power connector you should be good to go. The 24 pin on the mobo should be backwards compatible like mine.

I wouldn't count on using the Ultra-D as a SLI, though. DFI quickly made a new revision that prevents that (from what I last read a couple weeks ago) so be sure to do your homework.

Taking to some of my friends, i found out that UT nF4 Ultra-D no longer supports the feature of conversion to SLI (nVidia are just being haters) so sadly, that option doesnt work anymore. Meaning, any other good sli motherboards will cost me sufficiently more money. And hearing that nVidia with ATI are in the final stages of their development for next generation video cards, i decided to drop the SLI idea (who knows, maybe those cards will be better or as close to performance as 2x6600) So now, for time being, i was to get a cheap (but good) mobo with pci-e support and under 200$ tag PCI-e, 256mb (does it make a big difference as to 128mb?) video card, which should perform like crazy Any suggestions people?

2BelgianWaffles : - Running my system on Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.27
- 1gb of PC3200, later on will add 1 more gb to that
- Yes, one of the main reasons i am going for the DFI LanParty motherboard series is their amazing overclocking ability, although not a hardcore overclocker, id like to see how much juice i can squize out of my little cpu over there
Thanx for suggestion on video card, im going to look into that
2GlitterKill: I have that stock Turbolink 420ww powersupply that came with my Chieftec case. Not much power there, but suits me for timebeing.

Yes, i use the dual power system. I think its helping to keep things stable, although i have had a fan controller go up in smoke. A big brown pants moment.

I decided to use it as im running a crappy generic PSU at the moment, waiting for the cash to buy a OCZ power stream...so yeah im hoping that the DPS will help keep things stable until i get the new PSU.
