Default Screensavers?

Used to use a screensaver all the time. Changed them to match my desktop themes every week. That is till I found out about how much resource it uses. That and the idea that it was only there and running, when I was away from the computer. So I stopped using them, and just have my screen go off if I am away. Or turn the monitor off all together.

So I was curious how many people use screensavers? If you do or don't, would you explain why you do or don't use one? What benefits you see to using or not using them?
Thanks

I use it for the locking feature, rather than having to manually lock it when I leave.

I use TV static for 10 minutes, then I use powersave to turn it completely off.

I used to use the simple ones back in the 90's when they were actually needed to prevent screen burn-in. After that, they all started to look the same (there were a few cool ones, but the cool ones needed so many resources, they would lock up my PC). Now that I have computers that can run the cool ones, I'd rather use all available resourses for Folding.

I'm with the above. 5 mins automatic lock and monitor off... save the cycles for folding...

Once I am done using the comp I just turn off the screen or it will shut off on its own. I hate screen savers. I usually have alot of stuff running the background when I am away so I dont want some stupid screen saver runnig and to lock it up.

I just have a basic one.
I use a folder that has all my wallpapers and i have them flash across the screen every five seconds.
As for login screen, i totally cloaked my entire login screen and it looks like just a black screen.

I too only use it for the locking feature.
But I do change it from time to time to
depict what ever mood I'm in at the moment

I like my wallpaper way too much to hide it with a screensaver.
Some of the monitors downstairs shut off after 10 min and others I shut off manually.

Man, I did not realize how many people lock or password their PC's. Especially at home! Dang, I am glad I do not have to do that.

Matrix "digital rain" but in blue to match my case lighting after 10 min, powersaving after 30, but i turn my monitors off before i go to bed, but my CRT shocks me when i turn it on or off so i just turn the brightness and contrast all the way down.

I don't use a screensaver, just because I don't really want one. I think they're more of an annoyance than anything. For instance...I'll be reading a book for homework for an english paper or something...then the Windows XP logo will start bouncing around the screen.

I only lock my computers because I don't want my parents screwing up my PC's with their lack of knowledge...

I don't use a screen saver and for password protection this is what I do.

This works for WinXP:

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Log Off "Your username"
3. Click on Switch User

When you click on your username it will ask you for a password. This works if you have a password associated with your account. I find this to be more secure because there are many ways to get around typing in the correct password for screensavers.

My method doesn't use up any additional resources and all the services and applications are still running in the background.
