| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hey everyone, I want to buy a new computer because I am losing this computer now. My ex girlfriend is getting it (never trust a woman). Here is the catch. I don't need a good video card really because I don't play games anymore. The games I do play are just browser games to kill some time. I do a lot of web design and video editing. That in mind, I would need some decent ram and CPU. I would like the video card to have TV out because I use it as my DVD player, but I wouldn't even care if the motherboard had onboard video (I know it sucks but remember I don't play games). My budget is about $500-700. I already have a monitor, a DVD burner, and my IEEE 1394 for my digital camcorder. Thanks in advance. P.S: I much rather prefer AMD. I did look on Newegg and did find a build but am not sure how great it is: CPU: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-452&depa=1 AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - Retail $127 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...128-203&depa=1 GIGABYTE "GA-K8VT800M" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL $67.00 Case: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...147-001&depa=1 Rosewill ATX Case with 400W Power Supply and Side Window (Black), Model "TU-155" -RETAIL $45.00 Ram: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...220-037&depa=1 Patriot Signature Series Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC3200, Model PSD1G400KH - Retail $155 Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...148-019&DEPA=1 Seagate 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model ST380013AS, OEM $69 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...164-022&depa=1 ROSEWILL RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "RW9600-128D" -RETAIL $78.00 Total: $541 As you can see there is still some money to play with as well. Please let me know what you think. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I am pretty new at this, sorry. As for the HD Space, I have an external HD for space. As for the Intel, could you help me with a possible build? I have just used AMD for so long I didn't know if one was better for video editing than the other. | |

| As much as it pains me to admit, elitelilnoyd is correct about Intel being better at video editing, and Mac G5's even more so. You will want a good vid card rather than onboard video though (especially for video editing) not necessarily a top of the line card, but not an FX5200 either. RAM will also be very important, video editing takes up lots and lots of memory and CPU usage, more so on the memory. Also, gorked is correct on the HDD space, you will need tons of it for video editing. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I have an external 200 gig drive. I capture the video via firewire, so the video card doesn't have to be great. Edit: btw, I do video editing as a personal hobby, so I don't need the BEST out there, which obviously I can't get for my budget. | |
