| Apex Techie Wannabe | Got a question for ya: I've got a PC, about a year old, a Sony Vaio, and haven't added or changed any of the components. Recently, I started losing power to the PC just randomly. When it's just sitting idle, when I'm burning CDs, or when I'm typing in a word processor or browsing the internet. I've ran some programs to test CPU temperature (no problems there), ran a memory check, and did a full hard drive format/re-install (the problem still exists), and tinkered with it as much as I could, but to know avail. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does it sound like a power supply issue? Or maybe a motherboard issue? Any helpful suggestion would be greatly appreciated! (I'm not sure that posting specs will make a difference, so I'll save the time. But if it'll help, just let me know and I'll get 'em up in short order). Thanks in advance! | |

| Welcome to PimpRig Random problems like this are often difficult to pin down... It can be any and/or all of the main components, but most the most likely suspect is the power supply. After that, Motherboards, Ram, or the CPU itself. If you have a voltmeter, and some electronics experience, you can try testing the Power supply to see if it meets rated specs. What does motherboard monitor show for voltage to the CPU, 12v 3,3v and 12v? | ||
