Default Time for a major upgrade....

I built my computer a while back, and it's done me well. But now it's time for an overhaul. Here's my current system:

Motherboard: Mach Speed X-Calibur hunk of junk
CPU: P4 2.4GHz
RAM: 3 sticks of no name brand 256MB crap
Video Card: GeForce 5200 FX 256 MB
Power supply: I don't even know anymore......

I'm planning on keeping the CPU, hard drive, dvd and cdrw drives from my old computer.
Here is what I'm planning on buying:

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...127-174&depa=0
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...142-020&depa=1
Power Supply: http://www.svc.com/500xcon-blk-37.html

I need suggestions new RAM (Hoping for at least 1 GB) and a new heatsink/fan. I'm trying not to spend TOO much money here, so I don't need overkill on the RAM. But I would like a decent heatsink. I've never done any overclocking before, and this is going to be the rig I try it out on. Let me know what you guys think.

EDIT::: Just noticed I am now Lokie's personal hoe!!

Get a 9800 Pro. They're selling for $175-$200 everywhere. The little extra money is worth the performance over a 9600XT anyday. You could get an X-Connect, but if you just want functionality, a 400 Watt Antec or Enermax would be just fine (and a lot cheaper).

I'll check out the 9800 Pro's, I didn't realize there was such a small price difference. I'll also consider going for the cheaper power supplies......makes more sense now that I think about it.

I'm going to agree with Gorked here. The money saved on the PSU is well spent on a 9800 Pro.

Which PSU would you recommend? I'm looking at this: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/psu-38.html

Go with Gorked's reccomendation on the 9800...can the mobo in favour of this:

Pick up the Zalman CNPS7000ALCU - the alum/copper one...it performs almost as well as the all-copper version, but is less money...

As far as RAM goes, I really like Corsair's Twin-X low-latency stuff, but there's plenty other manufacturers to consider, like Mushkin Black and Ultra Products LL RAM.

I like the PS choice too (Antec)
