Default Outlook Oops.....

I recently reinstalled the OS on a couple severly virus/spyware ridden PCs at my local federal housing agency. I saved all the usual info and also took an image of the entire hard drive using Drive Image (which lets you mount an image as a drive letter, very handy to retrieve a file you forgot to save).

So they call wondering where there address book went, I said I saved it (as I always do). However in newb move of the century I overlooked the fact they were using Outlook instead of Outlook Express. So I had saved a .wab file with very little contacts in it when they were using Outlook (2002) and had a very large list of contacts.

OK this should be easy, find what file holds the Outlook contacts, restore or import the file and badabing. I have googled this all night, I find no information that directly applies to my situation or the information is conflicting. I had thought the .pst file was the contacts, that was incorrect as it did nothing.

Anyone know the answer to this one????

Thumbs up Hope this helps...

Have you looked for the extensions ".PAB" and ".MMF"?

Here's a link...it's about halfway down under the title "Importing Microsoft Mail Files". Don't know if that'll help but I sure hope so.

You have to export it to a .pst file first then move that file. There is no file that holds this info (except information store in Exchange, which you could do a brick level restore but thats another thread) in Outlook. If it is possible can you boot to that image that you spoke of? If so you can export the contacts and/or any email as well. If not you're screwed, sorry. Good luck!
