Default FireFox/Java problems...

Just wondered if anyone has noticed that the reply box in PR seems a little screwed lately. Here is a screenshot of what I'm looking at everytime I hit the reply button. In addition, the emoticons don't appear as images, rather as text.

I had upgraded to Mozilla a few weeks ago, but uninstalled it because I was getting pop-ups...even the ones I blacklisted. So, I uninstalled and went back to FireFox, uninstalling the Javascript environment and reinstalling after I put FireFox back.

Is this a problem just with me or are other Pimps seeing this to? How have you gone about trying to fix the problem? Thanks in advance for your help!

That's how I've seen it ever since I started using firefox, which may have predated me arrival at PR

Mornin' Rob,

Using Mozilla, I have the same issue.

However, it's not Java related, PR only uses PHP/HTML/ETC and Flash for the banners, no Java is used.

Sadly, Internet Explorer is the only browser that uses all of PR's functions flawlessly:
  • Entry of Smileys wherever the type cursor is.
(Mozilla cannot do this currently -- Defaults to end of post.)
  • Entry of Link & IMG tags wherever the type cursor is.
(Mozilla cannot do this currently -- Defaults to end of post.)
  • Post boxes, etc. show up exactly where they are supposed to be.
(Mozilla cannot do this currently -- Offsets from correct place.)
  • Automatically tag the signature to all posts at all times.
(Mozilla currently has less occurances than IE of doing this properly.)
I suppose GK will master compatiblity accross all the popular browsers over time, but IE really is not bad at
all if you have SP2, SB S&D Immunity, and a third party firewall. Granted, Opera & Mozilla truly are the best.

For the time being, I live with it, or use IE when I need to use some heavy text formatting, IMG tags,
and the like. Always type your posts out in Notepad or another word editor first though, IE loves to
crash if the connection is closed between the time of loading the newreply.php and submitting it.

Well, before it was using the smilies in a drop-down box. This is only on my home computer as the one at work still looks like the IE version.

Something must have been left behind when I upgraded to Mozilla. Ah well, I guess I'll just live with it.

Now that you mention it, I had the same problem right after going back from Mozilla, but since reformatting and reinstalling windows I haven't had that particular issue in the reply box.
Tek made some valid points about Firefox's inadequacies, as well as IE crashing at the most inopportune moment, but in some ways Firefox's capabilities exceed those of IE in ways that suit my browsing tastes.
For example, rather than right-clicking on the PR logo to open in a new window, I can right-click on the new posts text on the menu bar to open in a new tab. Just saves scrolling time, but convenient for my purposes. There are a few others as well, but neither browser serves my preferences 100% so I prefer to stay with the superior browser, even with it's shortcomings.

When I was using FireFox 0.9.3 (I think it was) it didn't happen until I lately upgraded to Version 1.0. I read somewhere GlitterKill answered someone who asked why the smilies started showing up on the right side of the screen...can't remember right now how to fix it though. And yep when I try to play Java games they usually don't load on Firefox. Sigh...and my new MX Duo keyboard doesn't work with Firefox either. LoL

Talking Solved!

Whoa! Just upgraded from the Beta to the full version of FireFox 1.0 and it looks like the problem solved itself somehow.
