| If you have set restore points, go back to one prior to when you were infected and delete more current ones. I honestly can't remember how I got rid of the last one I got, but it was a pain and I tried MANY steps before finally getting it. Edit: NoSlak's advice may or may not work as some of these things are pretty tricky. Try his method first though. | ||

| Try these: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (anti-spyware) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html (anti-spyware) If those don't work and no one posts a suggestion that does, you may have to reformat your HD (i just had to do that to get rid of a darned dialer...it was just easier to reformat than trying to track it down in the registry etc). Also, you might want to consider using a different browser (pimps seem to prefer Mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/ ) good luck. | ||

| Sometimes you need to go into the registry to delete them, other times making the System Volume Information folder visible and deleting the appropriate subfolder in Safe Mode does the trick. Sometimes it is necessary to go into DOS (seems to be getting more frequent lately as more and more people know next to nothing about DOS to combat the problem). | ||

| i have installed spyware blaster and hopefully it can protect my computer against future ones. i am not sure how to use it, but it does have 0 things disabled... that is good right? also i will try those links afterwards if i get it again... how do you know when the dialer is gone? how do i get to that volume folder? i have put on hidden files but i still cant see it, is there a place i am not looking? | ||

2 check boxes below the hidden files and folders option is one for "Hide protected operating system files". Uncheck this and you will see a System Volume Information folder for each partition or physical drive you have. Find the infected subfolder in Safe Mode and wipe her. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I would try downloading Hijack This, and see exactly what is running and where. If you do and need a hand, PM me the log file and I can tell you what to leave and what to kill. Among from that, Panda Active Scan (or some other online scanner) and Ad-Aware/Spybot are your best friend. | ||

| the error message i got is in the first post from the dialer, i have ad aware and spybot search and destroy. also syware blaster, and i have norton and avg as well.. and nothing seems to get rid of this dialer, i am trying to get into that volume folderm but i cant get in... maybe its because im not on safe mode? How do i get to safe mode on xp then? cause i have the file name and all that, i just need to get there in saf mode.... but i am not quite sure how in the first place. I will checkout Hijack this... and see how it works .... turbopsi said dialers dial out from your computer.... like long distance... how can they do that on dsl/cable?, its not connected to a phone line | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | I ran that into a Trojan problem before. The way that seemed to work for me was to turn off system restore, reset PC in safe mode, scan pc with Anti-virus. This should remove the infection in your system restore directory and clean the current infection. I would also recommend using the Firefox program for internet purposes. Let me know how everything works out. Edit: Don't forget to turn system restore back on... if you use it that is. ~Yeoman Last edited by Yeoman; 04-November-04 at 08:53 AM.. | |

| well i turned off system restore, and i put it on safe mode and ran norton anti virus while i was at school, and just turned it back on again. i hope that it is gone, but i have a feeling that it isnt, since norton didnt detect anything. i have mozilla frefox browser, spyboy search and destroy, adaware, avg 6.0, spyware blaster and all that right now... if i need to go manually delete it... it says it has access denied ... i put the attachemtn there.. and that is also on safe mode as well under admin account o.O and also mine. but i will make sure that it is gone somehow... thanks for all the advice ^^ Victoria | ||

| As cheap a technique as it sounds, on the rare occasion I get a bad case of spy/adware, I format and re-install, it's the lame way out but it saves time and headaches in the long-run, and yes I keep my important files backed up on a seperate drive. I just can't justify spending days cleaning out garbage when it's all gone after a 5-hour, mostly automated, restore. | ||
