I can't run programs in resolutions other than my default!

Brief description of my setup:
1.5gb PC2700 (3x512)
Asus A7V8X-X
Athlon XP 2400+
GF4 Ti4200+

Heres my problem:
My default resolution is 1152x864. Whenever I try to use any program that runs in a resolution other than my default, after about 10 or 15 seconds itll minimized back to my desktop. Ill click the taskbar button again to go back to it, itll change resolutions, but after about 10 seconds itll just minimize back to the desktop again. This just started happening recently...and the only thing I can think of that I changed about my computer recently is that I took out my old generic 512 stick of pc2100 and put in 3 512 sticks of Kingston pc2700. Should I try taking out a ram module, and narrowing it down to maybe a problem with one of the sticks of ram? Or could this be anything else that you know of?

I wouldnt bother with the RAM swap - I cant see how it would be related.........unless its faulty and tossing an error message you cant see......what OS are you running????

im runnin xp pro...but Ive been using it for a while, and this problem hasnt started happening until recently
