noob here boot problem

well maybe not boot problem but this is my first custom built computer, instaled all hardware and boots fine i can configure bios and everything i just can't load an OS, trying with boot disk but it boots up and gives me an error message that says

Reboot and select proper boot device
or enter boot media into boot device

have no idea most likely really simple fix, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Try setting the option in your BIOS to boot from CD first, then hard drive and see if that works.

Thanks for reply, i figured it out, i had floopy cable backwards. knew it was something simple. thanks.
