Angry restricted acess file won't delete

I used quad web to download some really cool pictures of superman last week. When it finished I sorted through all the folders and moved everything that I want to keep to the "my pictures" folder. Then I tried to delete the folder with all the junk I do not want. It keeps failing saying that "AMC083~1.D" could not find the folder. The folder is crammed with cgi stuff. So, thinking the files were just to big to read I proceeded to try to delete them one by one. I boiled it all down to a folder named "+Foster_David+" and inside it is a file named "+Corradini_Cladio+Satori" which says access denied when I try to move, delete, or alter in any fashion. It has even restricted the right click menu to open and send to. I then tried using Norton Clean Sweep to get rid of it, but it says there are no programs to uninstall. How on earth do I get rid of this crap. I mean, even in safe mode this sucker would not delete.

Did you look at the folder and the file in DOS? Let us know what it says.

Rob

Edit: Isn't David Foster a Canadian writer/musician or something? Why not check to see if he ever wrote a piece entitled that. Oh no, the RIAA found you!!!

To further what Rob said, you may have to unrestrict (or make visible) that particular file from within DOS as well, but I don't remember what the switches are off hand.

Yeh if you know the directory were its at, then use good ol' DOS to remove it - not the ocmmand prompt in Windows XP tho - the ME / 98 boot disk DOS. That, or go safe mode - that way almost all of the protocals are switched off and you can pretty much remove everyhting bar the windows directory. Thats why Safemose is very usefull for removing everyhting in the temp folder after so many months of installing progs etc...

or instead of doing all that work, why not change the file propreties from "READ ONLY"
heres how you do it , if you do not know how to,

select the file
right click on it
click "propreties"
and then you should see a display that gives the name and size etc etc
if you unclick 'read only" , that should help!!

hope that helps!!

Only way I think would be to put the drive in another system, as a secondary, unmount the drive at command line and then manually navigate to the directory and use the ancient "del" command followed by the filename.

del /f filenamewithfileextension

This is what I was getting at (except you shouldn't have to move the HDD) except you may have to use switches to make the file "visible" kinda like you would with ntloader when fixing your MBR after screwing it up with Linux before you knew what you were doing......... of course, I have never done this.

In DOS the command was attrib filename.ext -r -h +a to remove read only and hidden and make it an archive. Used it many times to "adjust" games.
