Default what's wrong with my pc?

Okay i have been using this pc for a while now. Some basic stats, it has an athlon xp 2700 on an MSI k7n2 delta-l with a gig of mushkin pc3200. The videocard im using right now is a geforce fx5200 128meg (yeah it blows). Anyway i switched my system over to a different case the other day, a chieftec dragon, and everything was working fine for a few days. Then i started trying to play games and realized that I was lagging badly. My ping was great and my internet was working fine. I tested out a few other games and games like counterstrike CZ and call of duty arent working now either. I start to lag and it seems like my videocard isnt working well. That's strange because i have been using that videocard on the same games for months with no problems. I can hardly move in game and then the HD activity light on my pc starts going crazy and blinking constantly.

So i did the usual stuff. Checked for viruses and spyware: none. Looked for driver updates: none. Checked system temperature: very low (i think 37 C on processor). Defragged hard drives: nothing. Restarted computer several times : still doesnt work.

Is my videocard just giving out on me or something? I'm about 3/4 of the way to getting a 6800 so if that's the case no big deal. Help?

Video card overheating maybe?

You transferred your computer into a different case, then problems started. I would take it all back out, hook it up outside of the case on a table, and check connectors, and see if it still has problems.

If it works outside, you know you hooked it up wrong, didn't plug a power wire all the way in, or grounded something in the case.

I just tried again for the first time today. Well, i dont see how the videocard could have overheated. I have so many fans in the new case that the temperatures have dropped by almost 10 degrees celsius all of the case (compared to my old case with 3 80mms). The game starts to slow down and then the pc freezes all together. I have to manually reboot but then everything is fine until i try to play games again.]

Im going to take it apart and check back in later.

Could be a ground issue? is the motherboard grounded to the tray?

I believe it needs to be, I used Plastic stand offs and had some strange problems, I switched to metal ones and they went away, might have been a coincidence.

Sometimes, a reinstall is the best fix. The registry gets so full of crap that the comp is dragged down. If you are confident that there is no virus, and there is no hardware problem, that's my recommendation.

well i almost fixed it. Apparently my videocard is just dying on me, i removed it sprayed some compressed air in the agp slot and then stuck in a 5600 i borrowed from a friend for the day. Everything worked fine. Unfortunately, i have to keep using the pos until i can buy a new one. Thanks for the help guys.

Atleast this means upgrade!

Good thing you found out the problem, and welcome to PR.
