um what o/s are you running?

you can go to start>run>mscnfig then click on the start up tab, you can change what starts up with your computer from there.

Have you run ad-aware or Spybot? Chances are that's the larger part of your speed problem

Yes I have ran ad-ware but the speed problems started after the msconfig settings were changed.

Wow thats souds horrible, boot into safe mode by pressing f8 before the windows loading screen and selecting boot into safe mode so that way minumal services are running. Then you could change it in msconfig from there and just reboot and that should fix your whole problem. Or if you can get real vnc on your laptop www.realvnc.com you could change it from your other computer. But I think my first option should work just fine.
