Well, as some of you know it was time for me to do a fresh install. So, I figured I would break out the old 1700+ and have some fun since I got my new ThermalRight SP-97 in.
So... did a mid level format on my drive (only the factory can do a true low level format on new ide drives)
Single pass only, just wanted to clean off everything from the last few installs when I just let windows format.
Threw in my 1700+ and started having some fun. Dropped the multi to 9, cranked it up to 166 - no sweat.
Upped the voltage to 1.75 and got her up to 195, at 196,hz it wouldn't boot. Raised the V to 1.85 and she started slugging along again. 225mhz at 1.85. Well, this pass I was going for my highest stable
OC, next pass I figured I would go for a
FSB drag and see my highest bootable. So, I know my
RAM doesnt have much left in it before I start getting memtest errors so I start raising the multi.
Now so far, I havn't gotten above 41C at full load (prime95) so I know she has plenty of love left.
Start getting some instability at 10X225 so I up the juice to a full 2V. Boot back in at 10X225 and prime it. 42C at load. More toying around and I get it to 11X225 prime stable (30 minutes @ 44C)
I figured it was a good time to take a break and run 3d2K1. Well, I am guessing my 9800 pro's draw on the
PSU was the straw that broke the camels back. I go do a few things around the house, sit down at the
PC to a blank screen. Bah, darn thing froze up on me, right? Bend down to hit the reset switch and I get a wiff of the unmistakable "burnt" smell.
Not thinking very well I thought I musta popped my proc. So, I pull it out and throw my 3000+ back in. No joy, no fans, natta. On the wierd side the LED on my NF7-S was still lit. So, I yank the
PSU out and grab the trusty multimeter to discover my
PSU has bit the dust. No readings on any rail except the purple wire on the ATX plug. I am getting 10.5V from that line only.
I guess my ole enermax served its time. Although it coulda picked a better time to die. Now I have to wait for my new X-connect to come in. At least I won't have to sleeve this one
