Default Problem with MB or PS need help!

About a month ago I bought a Soyo Fire Dragon P4 MB and an
Enermax 550w power supply. It worked fine at first then I started
having problems. My computer would just turn off while I was in the middle of doing something then it wouldn't turn back on for a while. If I tried to turn right back on after doing this it would stay on for about a minute then shut off again. I let this go because
it all of a sudden stopped and didn't do it for about three weeks.
A couple days ago it did it again and I waited a little while and turned it back on, shortly after it did it again and now won't turn on at all. I don't know what the problem is I've troubleshooted enough computer problems to know what I'm doing. The PS is P4 ready and all the voltages seem within a reasonable level. It's just me but it doesn't seem like a motherboard problem. The manual that came with the power supply said something about
overvoltage and how the power supply will shut itself off but I don't know why it would be doing this. Any help would be appreciated as I feel like I'm up a wall with this.

BTW I have to get my computer running by September 24th
because thats when Unreal Tournament 2003 comes out.

Shape,
Welcome, It is seeming to me that Soyo boards are having a real problem with XP (My assumption as to your OS)

I suggest you look at these threads and see if any of them relate you you.

If they do not, give us some more information. The more the better.

I don't know if any of you remember me but I was a member here
before but when I came back my username was Invalid. Can I get my number of posts back? I think I had around 60.

Back to the problem.

Duck some of the stuff sounds kinda familiar. I have no problems
with my soundcard drivers really. I have the Internet Explorer problem where it gives an error and closes but I've seen this with every machine that runs XP. Programming of IE maybe?

My machine literally shuts off, now it won't turn on whatsoever. I have had my system freeze up a couple times while playing neverwinter nights. note: if you have the reboot on failure box checked in system properties it will reboot on an error. It seems like my problem is hardware rather than software. I might have got a faulty MB or PS. I want to try to put a different P4 PS in to see if it will turn on with that. If it turns on it's definetly the PS
but up until now it could still be the MB as well.

BTW the old Nividia detonator drivers caused a problem with infinite loops that will cause a system crash. The new Detonators
are much more stable.

Has anyone else had a problem with Soyo boards or Enermax power supplies?

You figure I'll pay a little extra cash for a better product but I guess thats not the case.

Also I kinda find it weird that my problem came in spurts and that it didn't consistently happen.

oh, and the last time the problem happened I was just browsing the internet.

Thumbs up

Friggin Dragon boards messin up everywhere. The Soyo conspiracy! LOL

I got most of the kinks out and my SY-KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum and it is runnin better now......how about your's Duck?

Could be the mobo....maybe Soyo has a disgruntled employee that likes to skip the quality control......possible.......I seen it done at Motorola before, although I'm not supposed to talk about that.

maybe 60 was the other forum I havent been on in a while I wasn't trying to pad my posts or anything. Just a case of bad memory. It seemed like I did a lot of posting on here. Glad to have 27 though.

Anyways nothing happens when I try to turn the system on(dead). Whats the problems you've been having with soyo boards. Anybody having as I have been getting. When I could power up I configured my bios and my beeps sounded fine.

Is there maybe a flaw in the MB rather than PS.

It's a shame on the Soyo boards if they are the problem as they are some of the highest benchmarking boards available.

When my comp was running good it was fast as hell

Quake III - all setting cranked to the max highest resolution @ 75 FPS.
Unreal Tournament - All setting cranked 1024x768 @ 70-75 FPS.

I did good on MadOnion too don't remember the score.

Like I said though once in a while I would get the reboot thing
but nothing major.

I wish I could get all my thoughts out in one post

Cool

Well Shape,
Triple posting will get you to 60 in no time!

I wasn't mad fyi, just giving you hard time

Dude,
I am seeing a trend with the Soyo boards, It seems to be stemming from the bios vers. I am going to roll it back to a previous vers soon if it keeps happening. I hasnt so far to day.

Although it is getting pretty hard to type with my fingers crossed all the time.

You might try it and see how it works for you.

Shape,
Do you not have the psu fan running when you plug it in?

do you have another PSU?

We really need more info. I know it is hard to pinpoint but what happened before it went dead?

I will definetly try switching up power supplies to see if that works

How long do you have to send something back to a company, or does it vary with companies?

OK power supply is definetly the problem. I took the power supply out and put it in my Pentium III based machine. Comp. wouldn't turn on. Now I've got to RMA this S.O.B. what fun
