Default After leaving my comp idle for about 5 hours, theres a 10 degree jump in CPU temp...

Ok, im findin this information from Asus Probe...
after leaving my computer idle for just about 5 hours, Asusprobe shows a 10 degree jump (celcius, 48 to 58) in CPU temperature. So when I get home from school, i find my CPU at 58 degrees (hotter than it gets when gaming!), and my computer going very slow, which i have to restart it to fix this. This has happened many times, so its not just a one time thing. No screensaver on...anyone know what could be causing this?

Oh, and under power options in control panel...
Turn off monitor is set to 20 minutes, and Turn off Hard Disks, System Standby, and System Hibernates are set on never

Do you use Folding @ home? If so, turn that off. If not, install it when you fix your problem.

Computers generate heat, no matter how fast it's running. If you don't have the airflow to get rid of it, more heat will build. Plus, with 48 degrees celsius, you've already got a heat problem so it will only get hotter.

I know, but i really dont think its room heat....i mean, for 5 hours it sits idle at 48 degrees...then, BAM, in the space of a few minutes it jumps 10 degrees C?

Does it go into sleep mode? When my PC goes into sleep and then comes out, temps are increased. I just leave it on 24/7, no power saving options other than monitor, and run F@H.

Is your CPU fan temp-controlled? Maybe it gets cool after 5 hours, and undervolts the fan way too much, then doesn't pick it back up. Then, your Cool n' Quiet (if it's on) would kick on, and your comp would slow way down.

That brings me to my next question: what are your system specs? that would be nice to know...

Nope, CPU fan isnt temp controlled

Asus A7V8X-X with 1012 BIOS
AMD Athlon 2400+ with Speeze Heatsink/Fan and arctic silver paste
512mb stick of ddr266
400w antec
Ti4200 64mb
Idle CPU temp is 48C, moderate load about 51C, and heavy load about 56C
