Question Extract Data From a Hard Drive

I've got a user who's drive went South, but unfortunately this user had some files on it that they desperately need. The drive is physically in good shape, it boots and can be read, except for the documents and settings directory. Every tool I've used on it either locks up, blue screens, or can't find data within that directory. However, a couple tools have reported that there is still a lot of data in there.

I'm looking for new ideas on how to extract data from the corrupt directory. Freeware or shareware is preferred. I've tried just about everything I can think of, so now I bow to the wisdom of the forum.

The only tool I can think of is SpinRite, but that's around $100.

You could try one of these.

BA: if the data comes to a NEEDED point, there is a guy i work with that does forensic recovery and can get most anything off of a drive that spins..now if it doesn't spin, the HD will need to go to a clean room facility..

nice program i've heard many good things about that program, Hey BA give it a try, yah might be surprised!

worst comes to worse, yah could always use a dos prompt using a win98 boot disk and transfer the files that way, Providing yah have a spare drive to dump the files onto!

I've used all the command line tricks I know, that's why I'm looking for some other software. I'll try a couple of those programs in your link on Monday, Tek.
