| Yea, it's actually quite easy. I don't do it, cause I find no need, but here's a site that run a n00b through the resource file changing. Custom AIM Smilies If you look around, you should be able to find other graphics too that you can fiddle with. | ||

| just use Trillion basically it's an app that will connect to AIM, YIM, MSN, ICQ and IRC, all with their own settings and nicks/passwords and most of them can have multiple accounts open at the same time. and it's totally skinnable (windows, buddy list, smileys, the whole 9 yards), skins can be DL'ed from their site or yo can make your own or mix'n'match if you feel creative. It does get sketchy at times for some unexplained reason, but I have been using it for a few months now and I love it. I would say maybe once a month it will crap out pon you and you'll need to reboot before it'll work again, but keep AIM installed and that'll work when Trillion goes down and you can just use that till the end of the night... that's what i do at least. You don't realize how great it is until it shuts down and you need to use the plain old factory AIM ![]() | ||

| If anyone's tried the new beta AIM 5.0 you'll know that AOL seems to be trying to phase in some type of skinning system called AIM Expressions. So far, their skins kinda suck, but hopefully when the general public can really get to work on them, there will be some cool skins. Even though it's not fully skinnable like Trillian or Winamp, at least they're trying I played around with Trillian in it's earlier stages, but due to the lack of many needed options, I stopped using it. Maybe I should go back now that they have direct connect, etc. | ||

| Trillian isn't the greatest thing around...for me it defeats the purpose of my even having other messangers like Yahoo (like the webcam option...and IMvirnments are fun sometimes). I just use AIM+ ( www.big-o-software.com should be the site for it) which is an AIM hack which gets rid of all the ads on the buddy list, and gets rid of the pop-ups. But that's not all! It also adds a message history thing which it really should have, and you'll be able to clone another AIM to which log into however many names you want to at the same time. | ||

| Ah yes cloning. I wrote a cloning program a while ago and it got quite popular amongst the spammers. It was a bad decision on my part, but forgot to forsee it. The reason is was so good for this was because you could control all the clones via one GUI. That..equals spammer heaven on AIM. Luckily the program doesn't work too well with the new AIM protocol and you're limited to about 12 clones and they can only spam in chatrooms, since the Instant Message portion no longer works. Anyways, that AIM+ sounds like a cool idea. I don't know how I'd feel with a hacked version of AIM. They could easily log a password and send it their way, but they seem to be pretty professional, their site shows it. I also didn't get much into Trillian as I really only used it with AIM, sometimes with ICQ too. But it's a great idea and seems to be making great progress. | ||

| I have AIM+ I got it because hexing the prog to clone itself didn't work, this auto-logs all conversations anyways, I don't worry about stolen passwords, mainly just because I don't care. I was talking about that graphic you see when you first run aim, above the username and password text fields Yes, I had Trillian for a while, there were a great deal of features I didn't like, I couldn't read profiles, the away messages were just auto responses, no direct connections, not the regular smileys. I suppose you're just stubborn in your ways and you don't want anything to change. Thanks anyways. | ||

| It's quite easy to change the logon screen picture. You use the Resource Hacker acknolowged in my link. It's in the GIFDATA folder under the number 102 and then 1033 I believe. You do the same thing as the smilies. It's a simple process, using the Resource Hacker you can replace any image. If you look a little bit, you'll even find an image of what looks to be the creators/design team of AIM. It's the same size as the main image on the logon screen, which means that most likely there's some kind of easter egg to show that hidden picture. As for accusing someone for being stubborn (Not sure who you're talkin to) about not wanting change. Remember what your changing. This is nothing big and you'll look back at this as being stupid after a while since: 1.) It's already been done 2.) You're not gonna get props for figuring it out anyways, simply due to number 1 and because I just told you that site and where to find that picture in aimres.dll. I was in your position only a few years back, I enjoyed toolin around with AIM, hexing it, etc. But you're lucky we were able to help. This is a modding forum, you're lucky you got a response to this thread, as many of the people on this site don't care much about hexing software, they're into the hardware portion. I'm not tryin to stray you away from this site, we're happy to help, and we'd love to see what you can provide to the site, just being accused of somethin by a n00b is not cool and you'll learn to respect your pimps and hoes ![]() | ||

if it makes a difference, the newest version has all the above fixed and you can replace the smileys with your own or DL a file of the ones you want to use... granted, if you like the webcam thing then you would be SOL with trillion, byut they do have secure IM (encrypted direct connect) and a few other things i haven't seen (or looked for, for that matter) elsewhere. but I admit, it isn't for everyone, but i Love it.

Well I, for one, am a programmer/coder and know little, if anything about hrdware. I'd just rather write my own software then try to fugg with someone else's. Though I am trying to learn to Hex edit for the more.. practical.. purposes.

| Ah ok..confused Anyways, as for someone having there own graphic, probably not around here. But it wouldn't be too hard to make. Are you looking for a slightly modified version of the AIM one or a completely original one? If you have photoshop (Or Paintbrush if you're willing to make a simple graphic like that ), all you'd need are the dimensions or the original image and you could make your own. | ||

| LOL.. well, yeah.. what I meant by "install" wasn't as in to instal a program, but the more traditional term, "to place" or "to set up" basically just a program that will either find the appropriate line in the .dll file and modify it or just overwrite the .dll file with a new one. I'm not sure if there are personal settings in that file so we may have to go with the latter, but since .dll files are human-readable the first one would just be a matter of copying the pic file to the computer and readline and parsing the line to see if it is the one we need to mod, if yes the writeline the new pic source, if no then read the next line. hell, might eve be something that can just be done with a batch file.. who knows? | ||

| The aimres.dll file seems to only hold pictures, etc. I didn't notice any personal info since that all seems to be in the registry or in folders on your computer in the AIM directory or user directories. So I wouldn't be too worried about it carrying user info. I know when I create DLLs for my programs and compile them, they're done. They store no information differently on a different user's computer and I'm assuming the same goes for AIM. I'm almost done with the graphic, I'll upload a screen shot when I'm done ![]() | ||

| Yea I really want to learn XML, just seems like a totally different thing. And as of right now I don't really have a use for it webpage wise, but I haven't spent the time to look into it yet. As for the image, I'm sure I'll be able to get some hoes in there. Don't ya worry ![]() | ||

| since when do you need a reason to learn a new language? ![]() do you happen to know if i'll need a compiler for XML? afetr i learn that I'll try to get a hold of C# compiler and write a quick Pimp2Pimp program that pimps here can use as a chat room and file sharing (for case pix and suggestion diagrams of course) ![]() | ||
