Default Replacing HD Without Reinstalling OS?

I was reading on web site, hell if I can remember which, and it was suggested that it was possible to out your hd, out in a new one and not have to reinstall your os, they of course use a program which, i believe, took an image of the drive and they just used that. problem is I forgot where I read this and the program they suggested and I really want to know if it is possible.

thanks

are you trying to image a comp with XP or Vista?

if it is Vista (any flavor) you may run into issues trying to use 3rd party apps instead of Vistas complete PC backup.
anyways, we'll cross that road if need to.

what ya running?

I did the same thing with a new Western Digital hard drive. WD has a tool called Data Lifeguard that can transfer the data from the OS hard drive to the replacement drive.

Note: Data Lifeguard only works with WD hard drives, but your hard drive manufacturer should have a similar program for download.
